j MONTREAT COLLEGE, MONTREAT, NORTH CAROLINA September, 1958 Living Endowment Continues to Grow 61 New Members in Student Body Of interest to our entire student body is the continued growth of the Living En dowment fund, which was started by last year’s graduating class. This fund is sup ported by the alumnae, and already their pledges will provide approximately 40 $100 work scholarships for Montreat students. Last spring the Senior Class chose this project as their senior gift to the school. Any expense incurred through the solicita tion of alumnae for this fund is paid by them. September 8th the production of the year 1958-59 at Montreat College opened to welcome 61 new students. Included in this number are 53 freshmen, 7 transfer students, and one returnee from other years. A new feature—there will be 7 male members. This production will feature students from 8 states. North Carolina is in the spotlight with 20 starlets. Florida has sec ond billing with 11 sunkissed beauties. South Carolina and Virginia have support ing roles with 9 each. Georgia produced 5, As this paper goes to press, pledges and gifts totaling $104 have been received by Miss Elizabeth Hoyt, co-ordinator of the program. By May 25, 1959, Commencement Day, the pledges are expected to total $6,- 240 annually which is the interest at 2V2 % on an endowment of one quarter million dollars. The continued progress of this fund is a tribute to the Montreat Alumnae. No wonder it has been said that “Montreat is more than a place. ... It is an inspira tion ... a spirit ... a way of life . . .” For Your Information - Kentucky 4. The finale is furnished by Tennessee and West Virginia. Each con ducted 2 our way. The Future Business Leaders of America is an organization devoted to the arts and science of business. Their club activities include such interesting things as the FBLA convention held each year. Advisor, Mr. G. Stockton. Le Cercle Francais is the French club. “Mais, oui,” French is the club, but what language its members speak is not certain.
