This year, after much discussion and debate, the stu dent body selected two projects. With help from everyone, the patients at the Veterans Hospital will have a Merry Christmas. Decorations will be placed throughout the hospital by the students of Montreat College. ITie second project will be handled by each hall court who will gather food for a basket. The Christmas baskets will be distributed to families in this area who may not be as fortunate as we are. On Thursday, December 3, tom of “angels and mortals”. Each girl daily for her mortal. Students gaily participated in the bright ening of Howerton lobby by decorating the traditional tree on Wednesday. Many fest ive decorations may also be seen on the doors of individual rooms, as well, even mistletoe in the date room. Cooper Named Assistant Editor The Dialette has completed its staff positions for the term 1959-’60. At a meet ing of the executive board Susan Cooper was named Assistant Editor; Margo Forgey and Mary Ellen Sproles will serve as co advertising managers. Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Cooper of Greenville, S. C. While in high school she was a member of FBLA, spelling contestant in Columbia, National Honor Society, secretary of senior class, writer for BITS OF LIT, literary magazine. Senior High Fellowship Council secretary (local). Margo and “Mert” hail from the “twin Cities” of Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia respectively. During her high school ca reer Margo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Forgey, was a member of the Beta Club, president of Senior High Fellow ship, and was active in Future Homemakers as well as Anchor Club, a branch of Pilot Club. “Myrt”, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sproles, was a member of the Beta Club, Beta Foundation (Girls’ Club), Student Coun cil, Future Homemakers, Future Teachers of America, Tri-Delth, Tri-Hi-Y, secretary- treasurer of Senior High Fellowship. variety of activities leading to the Christ- the girls drew names for the Montreat cus- acts as an angel, doing secret good deeds Also adding to that “feeling of Christmas” is the recorded music which may be heard drifting sweetly from the lobby at various times. Sunday night, December 13, the TTiailians, led by John Ireson, President, sponsored the annual Christmas play. This year a cast of twenty-six presented “One Night in Bethlehem”, which was a flash-back from medieval England to the nativity. Mr. Al lan Guy assisted in the direction of the play. Following the Christmas drama, stu dents in small groups went out to various homes in the community to sing carols. The Sophomore class will give the annual Christmas party for the student body, faculty, and community tonight. Tomorrow will find Montreat students filled with the true spirit of Christmas, leaving the campus for the various places in which they will spend the happy holi days. RabbVs Illness Cancels Lecture Because of illness, Rabbi Meyer H. Marx, spiritual leader of Temple Beth El in Knoxville, Tennessee, was unable to speak to the Montreat student body. The rabbi, who is presently the visiting lecturer in Judaism in the School of Re ligion at the University of Tennessee, was to have spoken on “What Every Christian Should Know About Judaism.” It is hoped that the rabbi may be re scheduled to speak here sometime during the second semester.
