Montreal Singers
Tour Five States
Chorus members are eagerly anticipat
ing the annual tour, which will take place
February 4-16. This year the states visit
ed will be Virginia, West Virginia, North
Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
A pulpit drama, written by Mr. Guy and
based on the centurion’s reaction to the
crucifixion of Jesus will be the worship
meditation. Centurion will be portrayed
by John Ireson. Other members of the
cast include: Charlotte Dodd as Mary,
Martha Kinney as Mary Magdalene, Glenn
Camp as Peter, and Marvin Moore as
Nicodemus.
Other parts of the program will include
both secular and religious music. The
variety of the pieces to be sung range
from “Syncopated Clock” to “List! The
Cherubic Host.”
Mr. Guy thinks that this will be one
of the most successful tours ever conduct
ed by the Montreat College Singers.

ishment from the Sophomores. Also each
morning of exams we have something for
those hunger pains.
By her graciousness and charm. Dee
Lores Joyner has won for herself not only
the title of May Queen, but also that of
the Most Gracious senior superlative. Even
with all her activities—accompanist for the
Montreat College Singers, organist at the
Montreat Presbyterian Church, chairman
of the Music group of the SCA, and prayer
group leader—she still has found time to
radiate the warmth and charm which has
earned her these two coveted positions.
Dee is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. M.
Joyner of Charlotte, N. C.
Beth Rose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
J. Rose of Miami, Fla., will serve as Maid
of Honor to the May Court. While in high
school, Beth was Chaplain of the senior
class and sponsor for a Boys’ Club there.
At the present she is president of the
Freshman class at Montreat College, and
is a member of the Montreat College
Singers.
Attending the queen will be Freshmen

of Wheaton, Md., Dale, the daughter of

Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Grethen, Jr., is a mem
ber of the Montreat College Singers and
the Thalians. Paula, a member of the
Business Club, sang with the senior chorus
in high school. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Burt H. Betters.
Sophomore attendants are Dot Mc-
Googan and Martha Kinney, both Florid
ians, Dot coming from Miami and Martha
from Sarasota. Dot is the Social Chairman
for the college. Her parents are Mr. and
Mrs. M. T. McGoogan. Martha, soloist
with the Montreat College Singers, is very
active in the athletic program of the col
lege. She is a member of the Music Club
and is Chairman of the Student Chapel
Committee. In addition to these, she does
solo work at the All Soul’s Episcopal
Church in Asheville.
T'he superlatives, chosen from the
Sophomore-Senior class, represent the over
all pictures of the students as seen by
their fellow classmates and friends.
Marcia Hudson, Joy in Learning, is a
member of the Montreat College Singers,
and is Business Manager of the Dialette.
She is assistant to Dr. Snyder in the Biology
and chemistry labs. Other activities in
clude membership in the C.C.U.N., Thal
ians, of which she is vice-president, and
social chairman for the Sophomore class.
Her mother is Mrs. Valaree Hudson of
Gastonia, N. C.
President of the Women’s Recreation
Association, Lorene Key has been selected
as Most Athletic. Lorene, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. G. Key, Reidsville, N. C., is
a member of the Montreat College Singers,
the Business Club, and is the “M” Club
sponsor.
Julia Worrell, President of the SCA and
member of the Montreat College Singers,
has been selected as True Spiritual Vision.
