Jolly Is Associate
Editor of Diaiette
Little did Ann Jolly realize when she
came to Montreat from Hughes Memorial
School that she would be elected Associate
Editor of the Dialette, for Ann has never
before worked on a school publication.
This could be because she couldn’t find
time, for Ann was very active in her high
school days in such extracurricular activ
ities as the Glee Club, Future Homemakers
Club, Youth for Christ Council, and the
Bible Quiz team. At Montreat, Ann is
actively participating in almost every phase
of student life.
The business end of the Dialette staff
can look forward to a sharp increase in
funds now, or so says Gipsy Bevins, newly
elected Associate Business Manager. Barb
ara Hembree and Jean Hadley, respectively,
have been elected as Assistant Circulation
Manager and Advertising Manager.
The Dialette Staff is indeed fortunate to
have these capable and talented persons
added to the staff.

When one is in college and when one is
seeking information about someone, where
does one go for that information? Most
obviously to that someone’s roommate. That
is exactly what this one did when seeking
information concerning the Personality of
the Month, and Becky Morse had quite a
bit to say about Anne Gilliland.
“Having known Anne two or three years,
I have seen her in many ways of life, and
I have grown to love her more and more.
Since we have been at Montreat, however,
I have seen more clearly the Christian love
The day of turkey and pumpkin pie, of
worship and thankfulness was observed at
Montreat with the annual homecoming of
the Alumni. The day of thankfulness ap
propriately began at 10 a.m. with a worship
service directed by Dr. Grier Davis in
(he chapel of Gaither Hall.
Following the services students, alumni
and faculty member greeted old friends
and settled down for a morning of remin
iscing and walking around the familiar
grounds.
The traditional soccer game between the
varsity and the Alumni began at 2:00 p.m.
The game proved to be an exciting one,
and the crowd was led in cheers by the
Montreat cheerleaders. The afternoon
featured a new activity for Montreat, a
boys’ Tag Football game.
The Thanksgiving Banquet was held in
the festively decorated dining room of As
sembly Inn. The evening address was
delivered by Dr. George Webb.
Friday, the Montreat College Alumni
Association featured a Symposium on “The
Christian Teacher in the Public School
System” in Room 12. The day was cli
maxed with a concert by the North Caro
lina String Quartet in Gaither Chapel.
An Art exhibit and tea were held in
the lobby of Assembly Inn at 4:00 p.m.,
and the weekend activities closed with the
movie “Red Shoes” in Howerton lobby.
that truly comes from within. When it
seems as if she is completely overcome
with things to do, she still seeks the Lord’s
will first in her life.”
Anne is very well liked here in Mon
treat, and in some circles she is known
as “Annie Bird”. Her music has been used
many times as a means of bringing the
students and faculty together in worship.
As are many of the girls here, she is try
ing to learn to knit, but she does get
rather impatient at times.
