METHODiST MEN VISIT— (From Page 1) seminars, and state-v/ide conferences. The Methodist Youth have a fund with which they aid missionary work and college stu dents going into full time Christian ser vice. They have regular officers of their groups and regular meetings. Last I asked the men what they thought of Montreat. The comments were “Very pretty”, “Lovely”, “The food is delicious”, and “The service is excellent”. (Oh yes, I was their waitress!) They, along with many of us, had the same complaint about the clanking pipes, but I suppose that is a small price to pay for a college that the Methodists like. $$ Spells Help $$ Parents, students, friends. The Dialette Montreat-Anderson College Montreat, North Carolina ELEANOR ROOSEVELT IN "YOU LEARN BY LIVING" If you approach each new person you meet in a spirit of adventure, you will find yourself endlessly fascinated by the new channels of thought and experience and personality that you encounter. I do not mean simply the famous people of the world, but people from every walk and condition of life. If such an encounter is to be success ful, however, you will need two qualities that you can develop by practice. One is the ability to be a good listener. The other is the imaginative ability to put yourself in the other person’s place; to try to discover what he is thinking and feeling; to understand as far as you can the background from which he comes, the soil in which his roots have grown, the customs and beliefs and ideas which have shaped his thinking. If you care enough to make the effort, you can establish an understanding relationship with people who are entirely outside your own orbit. —Harper C.C.U.N. International Dinner Served Jan. 14 On January 14, the C.C.U.N. sponsored an International Dinner. About 40 stu dents, faculty, and friends appeared that misty evening to enjoy a rather different type of meal prepared by the members of the club and its sponsor. Miss Elizabeth Stone Hoyt. The first course of the meal was a de licious French onion soup prepared by Miss Hoyt. This was followed by the main course which consisted of rice and beans, a Hondurian dish, prepared under the di rection of Margaret Cooper, a chef’s salad with authentic French dressing, and pizzas. The dessei't was a Brazilian coco nut dessert which Miss Teia Fontes helped to prepare. Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal immensely. We, the members of the C.C.U.N., wish to thank everyone who at tended. The money cleared will be used to help finance a trip to Duke University for five members of the club, Jimmy Hall, Furman Parker, Billy Faye Combs, Deanne Hastings, and Brenda Brevard. They will be attending a mock session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and they will be representing Argentina. Famous Last Words . . . Oh!
