S.C.A. Presents Officers
To support its president, the S.C.A. has
a fine roster of officers for next year.
The vice-president, Becky Adkins, has
shown her love for Christ in her associa
tion with the students in the short time
that she has been at Montreat. A cap
able leader, she will give strength and
force to next year’s S.C.A.
Fran Black, who has served as chairman
of Stewardship this year, will be the secre
tary next year. A native of New Jersey,
Fran has been active in Christian Youth
work for several years.
A local boy, Ronnie Morris of Black
Mountain, will serve as the treasurer of
the association. Having some business ex
perience (with the A&P) Ronnie should
keep the finances in line.
The three group leaders, Ann Poe, Lynn
Gouner ,and Bobby Dillard, complete the
list of officers. Ann will head the Home
Missions group, Lynn the Christian Ser
vice group, and Bobby the Stewardship
group. With such fine officers the S.C.A.
should really prosper next year in the
service of our Lord.
Dear Editor;
For some unknown reason I have be
come acutely aware of a dire need in
Montreat. I observed the relationship be
tween the students, and here is where I
found the need. There is an acute emphasis
placed upon the point of each student con
tinually bettering himself as a Christian.
The students take this task very seriously
and concentrate on it, but in the wrong
way. The students become enveloped in
themselves and their small group of
friends and do not venture out of this
circle. There are many students who are
lonely. These lonely students reach out
from their despair and try to find a friend,
but other students and I are too blind to
see their need. We refuse to meet the
challenge of venturing out of our little
groups and becoming friends of those who
need us. In our self-made stupidity we
have become blind to the need of others.
The happiness, joy, and meaning of life
can be found by meeting the challenge.
God made man for each other, a universal
brotherhood. Montreat is small and we
are shown and given many opportunities
to become the friend of someone who
needs us, but we fail; yet, we speak of
world peace and call ourselves Christians.
Arise, meet the challenge, and live.
