Were you ever so alone and miserable before in your whole life? And do you remember the student prayer on your dresser ? It was such a comfort and so rich and full of meaning. I don't know about you, but the first thing I remember was the watermelon cut, then the hide ’n seek for the sophomores. Will you ever forget the mother goose program given by the W. R. A.? Every thing was fun and frolic at first. We all said “Who says college is hard?” Then we slowed down just a little and became more and more bogged down with “Return of the Native” and Greek Mythology, re member ? Then came the Freshman Talent Show! I thought it was great. It gave us all a lift after having to come back to school after a “long-week-end” at home. I know none of us will ever forget homecoming at Thanksgiving, especially the soccer game and the banquet. Harvey College. His wife, the former Melba Stroupe, is native of North Carolina. She received her Masters’ in Secondary Ed ucation at the University of North Caro lina. They plan to build a home in Mon treat. They plan to arrive on July 1. An addition to our Bible and English Departments is Miss Carol Williams of Co lumbia, South Carolina. She was graduat ed from Winthrop College. She holds her Masters’ in Bible and in English the Pres byterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia, and from the Univers- tiy of Michigan. She will arrive in Sep tember. Miss Elizabeth Wilson, present head of our Bible Department, has been named the Dean of Women for the coming year. Miss Wilson is filling the position of Miss Evelyn Morris. There is a noticeable increase in the Freshman Class enrollment for the 1961- 1962 term. Over 126 students are expect ed in September. Also, there is a marked increase in the number of men students. There are several other changes in our faculty for the new term. Miss Margaret E. Smith is transfering from the Physical Education for Women to the Mathematics Department. She will fill Mr. A. Ray Findley’s position who commuted from Asheville this year. Mrs. Louise Miller of our Business De- Department. She will fill Mr. A. Ray semester. No announcement has been made as to who will follow her. Miss Evelyn Morris, our present Dean of Women, will take leave for further study. She plans to obtain her Masters’ in Psy chology at the University of Arkansas. Exams loomed just around the corner, and were upon us like a menacing demon. What trying, torturing days! Then they were over and the chorus went on its tour through Florida. I dare say they will never forget those happy two weeks. Of course no one will never forget our “long-week-end” at Easter. New dresses, spring, home, and family were the favorite words around Montreat. We could all wor ship in our own home churches that Easter Sunday which was the nicest part about the week-end. Then came May Day week-end. It was probably the biggest event of the year. Dale and her court were all lovely. The seasons dances and the May Pole dance were very colorful and delightful. Of course we can’t leave out the play. I’m sure no one will disagree that it was magnificently performed. Now, the year is almost gone and exams are upon us again. For some this means “good-bye to Montreat for good.” For oth ers it’s an introduction to college, and where could one get a better start than in God's mountains with His people? In any event it’s been a memorable year. In some cases it hasn’t been a bed of roses, but we’ll all have each other to remember and that’s what counts. “Make new friends, but keep the old, those are silver, but these are gold.” “Though summer turns to winter and the present disappears, the laughter we were glad to share will echo through the years. When other nights and other days might find us gone our separate ways, we’ll have these moments to remember.” PERSONALITY OF MONTH— (From Page 2) cause she has been accepted to St. Andrews College for next year. Her roommate and suite mates confess that life just wouldn’t be half as much fun without “Toni”. We thank Mr. and Mrs. Barter for send ing to us this wonderful Christian witness, and we think Saint Andrews will be re ceiving one of Montreat-Anderson’s top students. The little poem below is a trib ute to our personality of the month, Toni Baxter. “TONI” A Breath of spring With her she’ll bring Happiness, peace, and joy Her life doth employ Each step an adventure to her New hope within her to stir Not exempt from sorrow or pain But on Christ these problems are lain To others a helper and friend Encouragement and aid she’ll lend A true faith is seen in her life Through easiness or strife These virtues to “Toni” are given And all together will lead her to heaven.
