FRIDAY, MRCfl 26, 1965 THF DIALiiiTTji PAGE 3 The intramural cage season came to a stop on ■larch 18, -with Jim Jack- son's team defeating Pres ton Merritt 7U-62, in the finals of the basketball tournament. Merritt gained the fi nals, in the double elimi nation event, after losing their first game, 59-58, to Marucci. Then came wins over Post, Marucci, and Johnson before losing to Jackson. Jackson's team earned a spot in the finals by defeating Marucci and Johnson. In regards to those who do not like the team of Jackson, I would like to say that during the first of the year when the var- L sity was ploying, many people were bi-agging that they could beat the var sity. Well, they got their chance and when each game /jas over they still had •lot beaten the varsity. The only team to defeat Jackson was Post, by the score of 65-5U, but the 1 a'x f time they played, Jackson's team more than made up for the loss as they beat Post, 93-62. Another thing that I iiiould like to get straight, concerning the championship ?ame. Jim Boyd and Ernie Janiels only had four fouls each and not six or seven like the people in the stands cried about. You, the people of this school Janted us to prove that we !ere the best team and we ARTCLES IN NATIONA L P T K MAG IZINE Two members of Phi The ta Kappa were fortunate to have articles printed in the March edition of The Golden Key, the monthly magazine of Phi Theta Kap pa. These members were Becky Cruz-Alvartz and Nina Woody. The articles they sub mitted were ones which had appeared in the fall edi tion of Green Leaves, "A Night in April" by_ Becky/ and "Mane" by Nina. It is indeed an honor to have a composition presented in The Golden Key,' and it is a privilege to have those girls as members of our Phi Theta Kappa fraternity. did. But like it has been all year long there will still be some people who will gripe. The sophomore girls completely dominated the volleyball games this year. They went undefeated in the season and then they won the tourney. An all-star team com posed of the freshmen and sophomore girls basketball teams played the Warren Wilson girls early this semester. Though the girls lost, they played their hearts out as they come from five points down in the closing minutes to pull within one point before losing. WRA is now sponsoring co-ed volleyball Tuesdays and Thursdays. SEASON CLOSES The college basketball season came to a close, after the NCAA finals held on March 19th and 20th, As the season ends, coaches from many schools will be looking for players to fill the shoes for their teams' leading players. Some of the star players who will graduate are': Fred Hetzel of Davidson, Rich Barry of Miami, Bill Cunningham of UNC, and Bill Bradley, the great All- American from Princeton. Going into the NCAA fi nals there were three teams, Michigan, the num ber one teamin the nation^ UCLA, the second ranked teamj and Wichita, ranked number eleven. Then there are the Princeton Tigers or as some say, "Bradley and the others", who were not supposed to make it out of the -ijastem Regionals. Team for team, everyone picked Michigan to win. This i s because of two factors. One is that they are ranked number one and theothor and the main reason is because of their fabu lous player Cazzie Russell. Russell' was runner-up to Bradley for the college player of the year. The next team in the finals was the Bruins of UCIii. They ranked second with everyone back from last year'srational champs, except Walt hazzar'’. A few of the experts picked the Bruins to win their (See NCAA, page ii)
