The war in Vietnam be
gan h years -ago. Th er e
have been many skirmishes
and many casualties, but
it is evident that the
United States’ position
has grown stronger over
the last few months.
liiOjOOO American troops
have already been sent to
Vietnam and 60,000 more
are expected to go by the
end of the year.
Should these men have
gone to fight for another
peoples’ freedom? Should
more of our young men be
expected to give the i r
lives to protect the Viet
namese? Why are we over
there?
Montreaters have their
opinions. Most s e e m to
agree that we should fight
the VietCongj the reasons
differ:
—¥e made a commitment
and ought to stick by it.
However, we didn’t send
troops soon enough.
—Christianity (the basis
of Democracy) is losing.
If we don't fight in Viet
nam we’ll eventually have
to live under Communist
rule.
—If we just pick up and
leave Vietnam, we’ll only
be encouraging the Con-
iminists in the United
States. The Communists‘in
RussiaV Vietnam and else
where look to se what the
U. S. is doing. I f. w e
don’t support President
Johnson’s plan and fight
for Vietnam's independency
what will they think?
These are only a few of
many comments made by you
students. How do you feel
about this situation and
what are you doing about
it?
