V.’s they thought they would have no trouble but not until the final two minutes did Western breathe freely. With five Cavaliers hitting in double fig ures Montreal gave the Kittymounts all they could handle. Western grabbed a quick 7-1 lead and it looked like they had the right idea. Those instrumental in the first half action for Montreat, were Pat rick with 13 points and Moody, Brake, and Hall with 10 each. Closing the gap, to 77-71, the Cavaliers looked as though they were going to pull it out. But with a little over three minutes left they ran out of steam and their hopes of an upset vanished. TTiere was no jublication in the Carolina dressing room for they had escaped embarrassment by a scant three minutes. Patrick captured scoring honors for Montreat with 23 points.
