Robert Miller, Blanche Morrison, Linda Glasco, Jim Wilson
Montreat-Anderson begins a pilot program
this year with tutors Robert Miller, Blanche
Morrison, Linda Glasco, and Jim Wilson
in the school's four large dormitories.
According to Dr. Monroe, their tutoring
will hopefully "raise the academic level
and improve the academic atmosphere." He
further stated that "it is the only program of
its kind so far as I know. " The cost is
underwritten by the Developing Institutions
grant MAC is receiving from the federal
government.
Linda Glasco, an Erskine College
graduate with a B. A. in psychology and
education, says the new system is still in
the experimental state. She resides in
College Hall but emphasizes "we are
available to all students, not just the ones
where we stay." As for the duties the four
have, she states, "I believe that we're
a bridge between the faculty and the
students."
Blanche Morrison in Montreat-Anderson
Asheville-Biltmore College graduate with
an A. B. in mathematics. He chose his
present position over high school teaching
duties because, as he said, "it would be
more beneficial to me."
Blanche Morrison speaks for al I, concerned
when she declares, "We're finding out what
Hall charncterizes the program as "individuallywe're going to do as we go along. " As for
oriented." She stresses the tutors' help will
be directed toward "particular problems the
sTudents have." Jim Wilson hopes the
students will want to seek assistance. It is
his wish that students not be required to see
them. He says "We're not parole officers.
Blanche and Jim are both graduates of
St. Andrews Presbyterian College with
bachelor's degrees in psychology.
The fourth tutor, Robert Miller is an
availability, they all agree they'll be around
the dormitory most of the day. Monday
through Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 P. M.
two of the tutors will alternate holding an
open study hall in Gaither Chapel. In
addition, the four tutors will attend
classes after securing permission from the
professors Involved. This is so they can
familiarize themselves with what the
teachers expect.
