MONTREAT-ANDERSOIM COl.LEGE
by C.B.S.
Once again the post-semester southern
migration to Montreat runs its' course and
all the good sheep are back in the fold. We
are also back in the harness plowing the fertile
fields of yet another semester. For some,
though, its' been no yoke. Many a wool
gathering, sheepish fellow has been led to
slaughter and been sheared by the faculty
sheperds of Montreat. This is obvious by the
number of new faces and the lack of the old.
It is as simple as cause and effect. Many have
reaped what was sown and are now nowhere
to be seen. Well, "that's life, that's what
all the people say," and will be saying again
when they're riding high in April and shot
down in May when the secon semester grades
hit the fan. "When will they ever learn",
that's what all the faculty say. | for one
won't, not until they do away with tomorrow
at least.
For those of us that have been fortunate to
survive the Harvest of the first semester there's
a problem. For those of us that have escaped
the professors' sickle and hove made it through
the academic threshing machine that separates
the chaff from the wheat, there is still the
sober contention of readjusting to the
Montreat way of life.

As the newly elected President of
the C.U.A.B. I find myself faced with
a bevy of responsibilities. The
President of the College Union Activities
Board must serve as a representative
to legislature and is also a member of
the Board of Governors and Programming
Board of the C.U.A.B. The Board of
Governors is a cross-section of the
student body and faculty of Montreat
and is in charge of any changes or
revisions in the policies of the
C.U.A.B. The Programming Board is
comprised of all of the chairmen of
the standing committees in the C.U.A.B.
This board is responsible for planning
and performing the activities planned
by the committees. The duties are
many but I feel that with the help and
support of the student body that I
can perform them. We at the C.U.A.B.
are looking forward to a good and
prosperous year at Montreat with your
support.

I would like to take this opportunity
to thank the students here at Montreat
who supported me in the recent freshman
presidential election. I appreciate
very much the faith you have placed in
me by electing me your freshman
president.
There are a few problems here, such
as the heavy restrictions placed on
women students and our out-dated
drinking rule, that I believe demand
immediate attention, and I plan to see
what I can do about getting a few changes
made in these regulations.
I want to thank you again and ask
you one more favor. If you, as freshmen,
see any rule or regulation that you feel
needs changing, please come to me and
tell me about it. I am in room 111 in
Howerton Hall, and I will be more than
happy to talk to you at any time. It
is my job as your president to work for
you, but more important, I want to work
with you to form a better Montreat.
Together we can do itl

On January 29, 1969, the student
legislature met with the new dorm
representatives for the student
legislature included.
It was discussed in legislature
that students should be on the
Admissions Committee, a boy and a
girl. The Executive Committee would
choose four qualified students and the
student body voting on these four will
choose two. These students would be
the voice for the students to the
Admissions Committee.
For new business it was brought to
the attention of the legislature that
the religious activities committee
has met and discussed the possibility
of no required church.
The student convocation has been
discontinued on Thursdays and will
alternate with college convocations.
There will be still six cuts given,
but this semester they will give you
campus if you cut one cut too much.
Students will report their attendance
in the same porcedure and the dorm
representitives will pick up these
sheets. These representitives will
post every week how many cuts each
student has.
Gayle Granger brought up before
legislature the possibility of girls
being allowed to wear slacks and shorts
to meals except Sunday.
