C. deliv er the Baccalaureate address at 10 A. M. and the Commencement address at 2 P. M. on Sunday. Both Services vnll be in Gaither Chapel. Alumni Day on Saturday, May 30, will begin with the fac ulty serving breakfast to the graduates at 8:30 A. M. in the Student Union. At 1 P. M. the Alumni Luncheon and Business Meeting will be held in the As sembly Inn. Guests and Alumni will have a guided tour of the campus beginning at 3 P. M. and the Commencement Concert in Convocation Hall at 8 P. M. will be followed by the President’s Reception for graduates, parents. Alumni and Friends. The Commencement Concert will feature the College Choir, College Singers and honor grad uates in Music. The College Choir will sing at both the Bac calaureate and Commencement Services. ATHLETIC AWARDS BANQUET The annual wards Banquet of Montreat-Anderson College was held on May 24, 1970 at Assem bly Inn. The Mayor of Montreat, Andy Andrews introduced the speaker for the evening. Dr. Wayne Montgomery, Mayor of Asheville, Dr. Montgomery was well received by Montreat athle tes who listened attentively when he said “Today I Am A Winner”. C. Larry Wilson, Head of the Health, and Physical Education Department introduced the vari ous coaches who presented cer tificates and letters to the deser ving athletes in soccer, basket ball, tennis and golf. The cheer leaders were also acknowledged, thanked and awarded crtificates and letters. Kester & Smith Retire Howard Kester, Dean of Stu dents at Montreat-Anderson Coll ege for the last three years will retire at the close of this acade mic year on May 31. However, MAC will not be losing him com pletely, for he plans to remain on the faculty and teach Socio logy and Economics next year. Dean Kester graduated from Ljmchburg College where he re ceived the A. B. Degree, Van derbilt University with the B. D. and has done graduate work at Princeton Theological Seminary. He is also widely traveled in Europe. He has done studies for both Senate and House Commit tees of the U. S. Congress, has written widely in the areas of the disadvantaged American. He received the Distinguished Service Award from Lynchburg College and was named by THE SOUTH TODAY as one of the ten “most useful Southerners”. While at Montreat-Anderson he has taken the lead in estab lishing campus government through student participation and especially through the Honor Court. Always available as an effective Counselor and always ready to be of service to students we shall miss him in his role as Dean, but we are grateful that he vnll be with us in his accustomed teaching role next year. STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE A number of MAC students have made significant contribut ions this year as they have serv ed the surrounding community while getting their education here. Space does not permit a de tailed breakdown, but the names of these students are as follows: Bea Simonds, Cookie Dodd, Patsy Horton, Linda Pruyn, Linda Twitty, David Stapleton, Pat Wade, Meg Montray, Sue Witmer, Anne Wallace, Mary Archer, Celeste Duval, Carol Roddey, Linda Stanton, Carol Winkler, Jeff Brown, Fran Cab rera, Kay Smith, Charles Peter son, Diana Long, and Cathy Smith. These students have been in volved in Day Care Centers, Music and Physical Ed. in local schools, and work with boys and girls at the Juvenile Evaluation Center. Stanton, Linda Irene A. A. Miss Margaret Smith, of the Montreat-Anderson faculty for a number of years has announced her retirement as of the close of this academic year. Miss Smith was formerly Head of the Physical Education De partment at MAC, but in recent years has been an effective member of the Math Depart ment. She has also spent con siderable time on various Fac ulty Committees and especially the Institutional Research Com mittee this year. She received the A. B. Degree from Flora MacDonald College, the Master’s Degree from Tea cher’s College, Columbia Univer sity, New York and has done ad ditional graduate study at the University of Winsconsin. We wish her every happiness and satisfaction that comes from knowing that a job well done with youth is a job well done indeed.
