THE LOOKOUT FEBRUARY 5, 1973 PAGE 4 from Daee 1 David Is becomlnQ attached to the^ people in the Montreat com munity and to the students of M/>,C and believes a radTcal change is beginning to take place here. "1 have a witness that the Holy Spi rit has a very definite plan for this campus and community, and the prayers of the older saints here have certainly not gone un noticed. I believe, however, that the same Holy Spirit is waiting for a much deeper commitment from myself and the younger believers before answering these aforemen tioned prayers. As a reference, 1 direct my attention to the pro mise of II Chronicles 7:14 ("If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will 1 hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.")." David was born in Victoria, Texas of Christian parents. His grandfather was a well-known Christian radio minister, from whom David received the bulk of his Christian training. His grandfather died when David was twelve years old, "and my spirit ual advancement terminated at about the same time. My parents, though Christian people, were more or less persuaded that the individual must find his own way in this area of life; and I de termined to adopt this principle not only in my spiritual train ing, but ultimately in every as pect of my life scheme in total- i ty." David's life took an erratic course for several years after this, beginning with him dropping out of high school and travelling to Europe to live as a card shark or gambler. "Living by a deck of cards, 1 ultimately came to learn a lesson which 1 would impart to any individual engaged in this somewhat dubious art of support. The lesson is that you do not control the cards. On the con trary,it is they who control you. I left the life of self-styled gambler and aame away quite emp- ity." From here, David searched for peace of mind In transcenden tal meditation; he found it lack ing. He returned to the U.S. and became Involved with Joe Bonanno, one of the five New York Dons of La Costra Nostra, or the Mafia. "For two years I lived with this man and was to be his constant companion. Our relationship was very much that of master teacher and student. From him I was to learn of human nature and behav ior from a unique point of view. It was through knowing this man that I was to come to know of a- nother phenomenon that very de finitely.exists in this universe, and the Bible says It in the clearest sense, 'What towest thou so shalt thou reap.'" From his life with Joe Bonan no, David went to the drug world. Still sqarqhinq for peace of mind. There is in addition to the nat ural world a supernatural v/orld separated from us by only the filmiest of veils. A world as limitless as time and space and governed by beings rtnidn cannot be seen by the natural eye and yet remain quite as real as you and I. But, peace of mind, which we must remember, remains the ul timate goal which will never be found In this place." I HAVE COME TO DISCCVEk THAT THE BIBLE HAS THE UNCANNY HABIT OF BEING TOTALLY ACCURATE IN ALL OF ITS STATEMENTS. David abandoned the drug scene and turned to the mysticism of the Yaquls. Through a strange train of events, David "came to the overwhelming awareness that the Devil Is quite real. "We are ail slaves. That we serve one of two masters, either the Creator, who Is the Christ, or the Destroyer, which is Satan, the Prince of this world. In the light of that com plete awareness, I merely picked up my chains of slavery from one Master and by faith, quickly fastened them to the One Who died for me at a place called yt. Cal vary on the Old Rugged Cross, "I have come to discover a- mong the many remarkable things to be found in the Christian walk that the Bible has the uncanny habit of being totally accurate in all its statements. In this age of soothsayers, fortune tel lers, and seers, where yourdaily horoscope may not prove as effec tive as you would wish it to be, you can always count on God's IVord. "The thing that continues to amaze me the most about this re markable God that I serve, who is God, Is that He has the habit of telling His people just exactly who He is, and what He has done, and what He is, ip the most re markable way, about to do. In deed, have they not heard? It Is all in that time-tested, life- tested, science-tested, history- tested, enemy-tested, miraculous book.
