THE LOOKOUT March 26, 1973 PAGE 2 DORM PRESIDENTS SPEAK OUT In the next few columns, we have an Interview with four stu dents , all of whom have some thing in common. They are all dorm presidents. There is no introduction or specification needed for this par ticular figure because of his out standing achievments at Montreat. His name is John Furman, and he lives in Greenville, South Carol ina, the armpit of the south, where he had been happy for a number of years. His position in this years' student administra - tion is that of dorm president of Howerton hall. After graduation, from Montreat, John plans to gp to Clemson University, where he will be studying in the forestry dept. After being at Montreat for four semesters, we asked John what his favorite aspects were. His reply was nothing more that "to have my own room, and a chance to be on SGA." Well, John, come back next year, and we will see what we can do. We did not want only his fa vorite aspects, but his least fa vorite ones as well. The fact that people complain to him does not seem to bother him, but when a particular person does all the comffeining, that bothers him. He was asked what he thought of Mr. Rhodes, and his reply was "he is, in fact, a fine dorm mother." He feels that the only thing lacking about Howerton is that it is not co-ed, and that Mrs. Rhodes is not making any chocolate chip cookies. John wants all the students tnknow about the big dance that is plan ned for the end of the year there in Howerton. The next person we come in contact with is Martha (Bed) Carter. Red is from the small town of Godwin, N. C. She plans to go to Campbell College in the fall where she will try for a BS degree in physical education, and later getting her masters. One of Martha's favorite aspects of her job is getting to know each of the girls individually. She feels that each girl has a special mea ning. Will someone please strain ten her out? Like most of the ot her girls. Red is displeased with the hours they have, but some of the girls are Immature and presEtt problems. When asked her feeling of Miss Wilson, she said, "Excel lent and very east to work with a personal tjuch, sincere, and ded icated." She went on to say that Miss Wilson wants to be more to each girl than lust friends. Af ter spending two years at Montr- eat-Anderson, Red is looking for ward to a change. This is not to say that she has not enjoyed her time at Montreat; she just feels that there need to be some chan ges made. She said "Montreat is not for everyone." Martha wants us to announce that there will be a party for the new dorm presid ent and for the sophomores given by the freshman girls. In the other girls' dorm, Fran Cooper is the president. Like John, Fran lives in the arm pit of the South, where she has been happy for years. Fran is really interested in continuing her education after she leaves Montreat. She plans on going to Poe - Pluckett U. in Bugtussell, Georgia. She wants to major in Hog-Calling, since she has had a lot of experience here an Mon treat. Fran acted like a newly liberated woman when asked her most favorite aspect of being a dorm president. She replied, "having beer in my room with no fear of getting caught." when Asked her least favorite aspect, she told us "the girls in gener al." She didn't have much to say about the girls but when asked about Mom Reed, she said there could be "no one else eas ier to work with." Fran told us of a few very interesting events coming up: like open house and a pajama party on May 10. Fran then left us with this note: How can one improve perfection?' continued on psge 4 The opinionsexpressed in thisl paper are not officially those off Montreat-Anderson College.
