Vol. 2 No. 1 The opinions expressed in this paper are not necessarily those of Montreat-Anderson College. Editorial Traditionally Montreat is a warm friendly place. Montreat still is, it's the people that have changed. In recent years the im mature high school habits of forming social cliques have car ried on to college. To see what has happened all you have to do is walk in Hower ton cafeteria. It seems almost as if some great superior has desig nated the “cools” to sit here, the Jesus people there, the blacks in that corner, and the outcasts in their “hidden” spots. But there has been no such designa tion from anyone. The division is there because we are too proud, ‘^‘too good” to associate with the shyer people, or the people with different ideals from us. What makes one group or even one person better than another? Maybe it’s time we all showed a little respect for one another and maybe it’s time we all grew up a little. Oct. 5, 1973 Page 2 Letters to the Editor Dear Editor, I feel the students of Montreat would greatly benefit from longer library hours. The ten o’clock closing interupts in the middle of ones studies. Perhaps an extra hour on weeknighls would ease this situation. uxxramn unrest at Momrean Anderson College? Yes! The pre vailing crisis exists due to lack of interest in subject courses offered at Montreat-Anderson and is brought on by the unique manner in which the staff presents their subject matter. Specifically, the dissatisfaction lies within the forceful means of teaching Christianity. We should of course always keep God in our hearts and minds and relate God to our everyday life, but there is no necessity to place sermons in the classroom. Apology This, the first issue of the Look out, is appearing exactly one week late. Several of the articles are now history instead of news. We hope that you will under stand that publication of any first issue can be a trying experi ence. In the future the Look-out will be published every two weeks. I personally accept re sponsibility for the interruption of the Look-out’s projected sche dule. I offer my apologies to the reader and my sincere hope that it will not happen again. — John Greagan By no means do we wish to bring an end to Christian prin ciples of the college, but rather to open the minds and hearts of those who will not leave the haven of Montreat-Anderson. Let us learn of God in the prayer room, chapel, and prayer meet ings, etc. Let us learn the prin ciples of man’s world in the class room, and then let the individual bring God and himself together. Dear Students: Welcome to a new year at Mon treat-Anderson College! I hope each of you is off to a good start. I am convinced that this will be one of our best years. I see many talents, a great deal of determination and wisdom. All of these combined should insure progress and lasting contributions to your way of life and for the future of the college. It is my hope that we may help you establish new dimensions and show you new opportunities. Most of you will have 4 or 5 careers during your life. With this in mind, I hope that you will find the foundation at this liberal arts institution that will help you to adjust to these changing times. My prayer is that you will develop spiritually, mentally, and physical ly. This will not occur by itself. You must make it occur in your life, if you are to reap the full benefits of the opportunities that lie before you. The teachers and staff of the college are your friends. Turn to them when you need them, but do not make it a habit to lean upon them. Do not use excuses for lack of good planning and self discipline. Work hard for a good time and a successful year.
