It seems that some of us are
so afraid to get involved . . .
As if the giving, taking, and
sharing weren’t worth the risk
of uncertainty.
FROM THE EDITOR
Many of you in the student body
have asked repeatedly “When is the
paper coming out?” And my answer
has only been “As soon as it can be
finished!”
Friends, I have something to say
that I hope doesn’t go in one ear and
out the other. The Lookout needs
HELP from students, if you really
want a paper. The necessary work
required to put each issue of the
paper out cannot be done by one or
two people. A small group of about
six students is needed to gather ar
ticles, read and correct them, type,
and help on getting the praper out
■to the student body.
Much prayer and hard work has
been put into this issue. Under ordi
nary circmnstances, I would feel it
necessary to apologize to the stu
dents for the paper going out sev
eral days late. But due to the fact
that very little help has been rend
ered to put this issue together. I
can only say that this issue is God’s
doing. I’ve done all that I humanly
could, but would not have been
able to put this out without God’s
help.
I do thank those that have helped
in ANY way for this issue. But in
closing, I wish to leave you, the
students, with this thought in
mind: Any school newspaper is to
be its students’. If students don’t
care for a paper, they should say
so, and save others a lot of time
and hard work. If you DO want a
paper, prove it.
"Come Together" in Knoxville, Tenn.
Come Together: In Jesus' Name
Among the echoes in the Montreat
valley recently have been the
strains of “Come Together”, a mu
sical presentation of the Montreat-
Anderson College Singers, under
the direction of mathematics pro
fessor, Mr. Charles Massey.
In a recent interview, Mr. Mas
sey discussed this testimony for
the Lord Jesus.
This year’s “Come Together”
choir had its beginning last sum
mer, here in the Black Mountain
area. Mr. Massey, in response to
student interest, sought a musical
that could be susccessfully pro
duced at the College this year. He
found his answer at the Ridgecrest
Assembly Grounds, where the sum
mer staff was regularly singing
“Come Together”.
Seizing the idea. Montreat’s Mer
ry Minstrel summoned participa
tion from students, staff members,
and community residents when
school opened, and the group pray
erfully began to prepare for what
was to be their sole presentation.
Parents’ Day at the College.
They have sung “Come Together”
for groups six times since Parents’
Day, and currently are booked for
seven more engagements.
When asked his personal reflec
tions on this singing experience,
Mr. Massey replied, “This is un
usual, because it’s an unusual
group.”
He went on to explain the desire
to serve, not to perform, has been
unique.
Serve whom? Jesus Christ.
He also said the enthusiasm of
the group has been extraordinary.
citing that, of the original seventy-
three participants, sixty-six are
still active.
Other exciting episodes in the
life of this family include the pray
er time before each opportunity
to love in song, and its pay-by-faith
budgeting. Mr. Massey explained
that, because the co-operation is
not an official College organiza
tion, it is allotted no school funds.
The Lord’s singers in Montreat,
however, have vividly seen that
He meets the needs of His Own.
Expenses of several hundreds of
dollars have been paid.
A powerful spiritual lesson for
all concerned has been to see that
God’s purposes are not dependent
upon imperfect devices. Despite
equipment troubles and physical af
fliction, the Good News of Life in
Christ has continued to harmon
iously ring.
What personal rewards has Mr.
Massey gained from the “Come To
gether” endeavor? A feeling of
usefulness, while sharing God’s
love with other people; particular
ly graitifying to him is that God
would use him, even though he
has no formal musical training.
The Montreat-Anderson College
Singers will petition “Come To
gether” in Arden and Marion on
February 17, and in Charlotte on
the 24th. Pray for them and for
those they will greet.
Preparation for another musical
production, “Celebrate Life”, to be
sung here Easter, is currently
under way. Interested persons
should contact Mr. Massey.
