We Don't Believe in Defeet This is the song of the Rolling Vibrations, an organization of bi cycle riders who travfel south^n America, experiencing, singing and sharing Jesus Christ. Under the direction of Mon- treat-Anderson handyman, Mr. Charles Massey, and Tommy Scott Gilmore, ex-star of the Tay lor University 1971 NAIA 7th ranked football team, the college and high school students who form the Rolling Vibrations are quite mobile. Last sununer, twen ty - three cyclists traveled s^ southern states, 1800 miles, wit nessing for Christ. Citing that the greatest benefit of the trip was the spiritual grow th, rather than the physical feat, Mr. Massey said, “On a long bi cycle trip, you have a lot of time to think.” In a recent interview Mr. M^- sey commented on the phenomin- al growth of cycling in recent years. Reflecting that Montreat has not been unscathed by the “bi cycle boom”, he said, “There are more bicycles on campus this year than ever.” Consequently, munerous spring time activities are planned for enthusiasts. There will be one-day and weekend trips to places like Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah, and there will be a post-graduation trip, open to anyone interested, to the Outer Banks. A similar trip was enjoyed successfully and eco nomically last May. Coming highlights in pedaling include a June trip to Europe, and a July trip in North Carolina. Both trips will be co-ed, and will last approximately three weeks. Persons interested in cycling for Chritet as the days grow warm er should contact Mr. Massey. Watch for announcements around campus. They have organized a Christian “talent agency” from among Montreat-Anderson stu dents. These students are servants de siring to preach, to teach, to share, to sing, etc. - all to Christ’s Glory. The students are offering their talents to churches in the sur rounding area to help meet the needs of the churches. The Student Christian Associa tion also has Gospel Teams that go out every Friday night to wit ness for Christ, in addition to va rious service projects to help others. Let us keep these studerrts and their work for the Lord in our prayers, and support them any way we can. PAGE 3 TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY The Student Government As sociation has scheduled April 10, 1974 for the Teacher’s Apprecia tion Day and is an occasion for the students to express their grati tude to the teachers for their un flinching effort to promote the standard of the school, both in academic field and in extra curri cular activities. The SGA intends to mark the day with festivity from dawn till dusk. The highlght of the oc casion include a dinner party in Howerton Cafeteria where the outstanding teacher of the year will be presented. “The futiure is not a gift; it is an achievement. Every generation helps make its own future. This is the essential challenge of the present.” Robert F. Kennedy SOME VIEWS In the past few weeks America’s, attention has been directed toward the most eye-opening of all col lege fads; STREAKING. Streak ing has become the top of discus sion on many talk shows and the subject of many jokes. This popular college fad has also been criticized by Christians as immoral and a bad witness. This may be true. However, let us not forget that among the many things initiated by Adam and Eve, was Streaking. The prophet Isaiah was also reported to have streaked about the streets for a period of time to capture peoples’ attention. The reason behind streaking will probably never be fully un derstood. Some say that baring one’s self signifies that the gov ernment is now bare to the public and has nothing to hide. Others feel it is a Communist plot to catch America with its pants down. Probably the most believ able reason is that it’s funny and it shocks people. Streaking has also been describ ed as an attempted return to na ture. After all, animals have been streaking for years and apparent ly have grown quite fond of it. At OF STREAKING Montreat, a person may not go barefooted in the cafeteria but dogs periodically streak through it. It may also be added that the record for long-distance streaking is held by a bird.
