PAG^ 6 BASE BALL PROGRAM r. >C-S??1( JM BASEBALL According to Coach Lynn Stra- nak and Dan Murray, who shares the captain’s position with John Ledbetter, prospects for this year’s baseball season are very promising. Due to the returning players, plus several outstanding freshmen. Coach Stranak feek that “baseball is here to stay”. The strength of the team is found in the pitching and catch ing positions. Edmonds, Zinn, Stewart, and Blanton have shown outstanding promise on the mound while Odum and Wells will double up as spot - starters and relief pitchers. Danny Moore and John Ledbetter will handle catching duties. Hitting looks good so far, especially at the top of the batting order. Although Montreat will not be known as a power hitting team, we will be consistent. Several scrimmages have proved that more outside work will be needed to bring us to the posi tion of conference contender. Coach Stranak feels that the team is developing and is openly confi dent in stating: “The attitude of the team is good. If we can co ordinate our mental spirit with our physical ability, we can take the championship.” Wiat class is learning a little bit of culture from each of the fol lowing coimtries: France, Czecho slovakia, Yugoslavia, Armania, America, Israel, and Serbia? This class, meeting once a week, has more student involvement than most of Montreat’s classes. It’s the Square Dancing class. Visiting this class is quite an experence. If one feels energetic, it’s easy to join in the fun. If not it’s great sport just to sit and watch. Where else do you get to see so many of MAC’s students trip over their own feet at one time? The callers who teach the vari ous steps accomplish the impossi ble - getting a large group of stu dents dancing TOGETHER in a short period of time. Of course, it takes a little scolding and encour agement, and comments like, “Sounds like you never held a girl before!” In spite of the comment “Are we in prison?”, and similar wise cracks, most of the students have a swinging time. All students not enrolled in this class are encour aged to and watch (if they don't care to join in). Montreat will have an oppor tunity to see the class perform on April 17 in the Barn, where some doggers, etc., will be present to provide music. Come prepared to dance polka, mazurkas, western, mountain, American novelty, and American contemporary folk dances. Yeeeeeeeee hi!!!
