The largest group of parents, an estabhshed 240, attended this activity and otheres Friday through Saturday. Under the direction of Charles Massey, the 60-voice choir concertized before an overflow crowd at the Mon treat Presbyterian Church. The musical takes its theme from II Chronicles 7:14 in the Holy Bible. In the passage, God says, “If my people who are called by my name humble them selves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” As the Scripture indicates, the musical is a call to God’s people in American to obey the scripture for the good of America. Overall, the weekend ac tivities were programmed to orient the parents to Mon treat-Anderson College and to give them an opportunity to meet with faculty and ad ministration. Aside from speeches, student skits and an entertaining .slide show, there was a square dance, intersquad basketball game and a presidential tea for everyone’s enjoyment. A special Sunday morning church service by the Rev. Calvin Thielman concluded the weekend. Parents elected to parents council offices Saturday were John and Francis Hutchinson, president (parents of Phred Hutchinson), Jack and Toby Wilson, vice-president (Tracy Wilson’s parents) and Jane and Clayton Kilgore (Julie Kilgore’s folks). WILKINS Student Government Editor Three-fourths of the M—A , C student body voted in the elections held Nov. 7-10 for freshman officers and representatives to the Honor Council. Tonya Henderson was elected by a majority vote in the general election Friday, while David Buie, Paula Myers and Willis Dowling each got a majority in the run off Monday. David Buie of Charlotte, N.C. is the new freshman president succeeding R. B. Wilkins. David Buie over shadowed Marc Robinson for the freshman top office. David told the student body that he wants to serve them. David now serves as the chairman of the development committee and as a representative to the SGA. Paula Myers of Mexico City is the new vice-president of the freshman class. She succeeds Keith Norwood. Paula is . the chairman of the food committee. Paula told the student body that careful and constant negotiations w' bring about change. Tonya Henderson of Win ston-Salem, N. C. is the fresh man representative to the Honor Council. She succeeds Nellie Baker. She and the male representative hear cases involving student discipline. She told the students that she believes in fairness and honesty. Willis Dowling of Charlotte was elected the new male representative to the Honor Council. He succeeds Stanly Fortner. He believes in student representation and Christian participation. An amendment to the SGA constitution also was presented to the students in the general election. The proposal to have two faculty advisors to the SGA with staggered two-year terms passed overwhelmingly. questioned how the committee was selected citing how uninterested some of the members seemed to be. It was pointed out that the committee was chosen from a fraction of students who were asked if they would like to serve. One student gave a long talk on how Christianity and smoking don’t mix. On Monday in Convocation there will be a “Rap Session” with the SGA. There will be no faculty members present so the students will feel free to speak their minds. There will be five minutes for the smoking committee to give their report to the student body. All complaints and gripes should be given at that time. The SGA decided Wed nesday night to take the opinion of the student body on the smoking proposal in Convocation Monday. The students will vote on the issue, and the results of this vote will guide the SGA in its decision on the smoking proposal. This is NOT a referendum, but an opinion. Welcome back! For if we beliqve that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will will God bring wiyh him.” I Thessalonians 4:13-14 >»*v' i ' ''V . Danny Simpson 1955-1975
