More Housing For Women % t if ilS- i' K photo by Ken Lakin Fellowship Hall Renovated As the student body of Montreat enlarges, the school saw the need to expand the women’s dormitories. The solution to this problem came in the purchase of Fellowship Hall from the Mountain Retreat Association., Plans to renovate Fellowship Hall have been in the making for a year. The work began in May of last year after graduation. Fellowship Hall was built in 1937 and is now undergoing repairs in electrical and plumbing fixtures. The interior is also being revised and carpeting and furniture are being provided for the building. The first and second floors of Fellowship Hall are to be finished by the end of December. The third floor of the structure will not be in use until the funds for the project are available. The reconstruction of Fellowship Hall has cost approximately $125,000 for the first and second floors and is estimated to cost $150,000 for the work involved in the renovation of the third floor. This building is expected^o hold 44 students and will be open to the public for summer conferences. Also being discussed is the renovation of Howerton Hall. Drawings have not been furnished as of this writing, but this project is estimated to cost $250,000. Ideas are being discussd now for this plan and construction will begin in the summer if the necessary funds are made available. These buildings when completed are to resemble Davis and MA Hall in quality and character. The area I am referring to is Montreat and the abuse I speak of is commonly called litter. The following people deserve thanks for doing a job that everyone should have had a hand in; Susan Anderson, Don Jackson, Tim Wannamaker, Michael Owen, Bill Snidow, Brent Jarrett, Elizabeth Van Doren, Eric Buyart, Linda Buyart, Linda Gorham, Cihip Cameron, David Minyard, Betty Maxwell, Robert Russell, Mark Grubb and Bobby Dick. A very special thanks goes out to Jim King, the cafeteria manager who graciously donated the trash bags used by the cleanup crew. If you truly care about the beauty and environmental integrety of Montreat then show up for Clean Up Day II! The date and time for this project will be announced and displayed on the bulleting boards for those of you who can read.
