But then, why worry - because SInte were out of school before they could blink their eyes. blow this all away and everyone wiU forget, and the lesson will remain The quick judgement made on these students is what puzzles me. As a nnigamed. Christian college with the Bible as its foundation, there are several verses one needs to consider on man judging man When a n^"®^ for committing adultery, Jesus asked the person who had never sinn^ m throw the first stone. Many times, quick decisions have disastrous effects, but when situations like the one mentioned, are considered slowly J^^bS^e conclusion is usually reached. In previous cases at Montreat, students have received the same hasty type hearings. A slower “tnal’for accused students on serious matters would bring out more facts and less hearsay. Perhaps the world will hold a higher view of Christians when some of them S lis louiiuauuii, uici c c»i »V,* ^ 1 'i ? This I editorial is another opinion on the same subject, but based more heavily on recorded fact. Fact no. 1 - The students suspended from school were not under I suspicion. It was a known fact that they had broken one of the moral codes ot I the college. C.C. contradicts herself in saying that the case was unavoidawy [long and the students were kicked out before they could blink their eyes. Ac tually it was neiitlher short or long, just legal. , . . • 1 Humans do have a way of using religion to fit into their own purposes just as I the above article illustrates. The verses cited all contend that man should not judge man. True but impossible! C.C. is judging the administrators and their decision. If one wants to bring a Biblical standpoint in it would be the idea of repentance - the basic theme throughout the Bible and the American coi^te today! (see article p. 6 The fact is that the defendants consider^ their breaking the codes of the college and GodS law not to be wrong. The ad ministration was more than willing to help these students, however, them help was rejected. So the Fall winds will blow this all away and the suspended students will forget, and the valuable lesson they could have acknowledged will remain unlearned? I pray not. A.M. Letters to the Editor My biggest disappointment upon arriving at Montreat-Anderson College was the noticeable lack of physical fitness equipment and apparatus.! came to Montreat with these 3 goals in mind: to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually, not necessarily in that order. I believe that being fit creates a healthy attitude toward everything in ones life. I believe being healthy in the body will lead to a healthy mind and spirit also. I look at many of todays high schools and see in their gymnasiums as a part of their physical fitness programs, an exercise room with a ‘universal Gym’, sit-up boards, pull-up bars, dumb bells, bar bells, etc., and then I look all over and I cant find one single, basic piece of fitness equipment such as a standard pull- up bar. Its really sad. I just think it is a shame to see such a lack of emphasis on the promotion of fitness when it is such an important part of everyday life. Myself and others, Ihi sure, will be praying that the Lord sees fit to remedy this situation so that each student here at Montreat will have the opportunity to grow healthy in body, mind, and spirit. Respectfully submitted, Mark S. Richie RESPONSE-Physical education director, Dr. LinnStranak is pleased to inform us that new equipment is on its way. It includes two exercise bicycles, barbells, dumb bells, and skip ropes and is being financed by both the Student Government Association and the Physical Education Department. As for a Universal, Coach Stranak considers it quite improbable due to lack of space and interest on the part of the student body. The equipment or dered should arrive any day now. I noticed that the money from the ‘Big Man on Campus’campaign went to the band for the homecoming dance. I had understood that the money we paid at the beginning of the year for student activities as part of our tuition cover^ such functions. Is there any logical ex planation for this, or is this another fumble up on the part of the school? Name withheld. RESPONSE-The money collected for Big Man on Campus did go to the purchasing of tne Homecoming band. They were paid off with the Student Activities budget. The money collected for BMOC’s has not been used as of yet. When used, it will be for something the students really need or would like to have such as something really special to eat! What does teacher of the week mean? How is it chosen and who does the choosing? RESPONSE: Teacher of the Week is the person chosen by the Editorial Staff of the Aletheia before each issue who in their opinion deserves recognition for outstanding qualities in the area of student-teacher relationships. ^ Is Bruce Powell, President ot SC A, really married? YouVe got to be kiddmg? I have read the column Earl Zelswick in the paper for the last two weeks and it still doesnt make a bit of isemse to me. Could you please explain it to me. Name withheld RESPONSE-I understand why you didn’t sign your name to this letter to the Editor. You were ashamed. right? Oh weU, Earl Zelswick was created to give the readers of ALETHEIA an insight into them selves. In short, there is a little bit of Earl Zelswick in all of us. I really appreciated your article last issue concerning Robby Yates M.P.D. He is a really cool guy and policeman. Neal Patterson TEACHER OF THE WEEK DR. C.C. KINNISON (DOC)
