College Shocked Over The Loss Of Dean Evans
Shocked, to say the least, was the
reaction of Montreat-Anderson
College upon hearing the news of
Dean Evans’sudden death Saturday,
October 29. Most students couldn’t
accept the tragedy as reality as
word of our loss circulated
throughout the campus. Saturday
just wasn’t Saturday any longer.
Sunday Church services echoed the
loss of Dean Evans, and classes
were cancelled Monday in lieu of a
special memorial service.
The 54-year-old Weaverville
native had joined the staff of
Montreat-x-Anderson College in 1976
as a Bible instructor, later becoming
a Trustee of the college and was
appointed acting dean of the college
in April 1977. MAC President Silas
M. Vaughn described Dr. Evans as
“a man who served God in many
positions as a Christian ieader|* in
Monday’s special memorial service.
This quality was overwhelmingly
evident to all associated with Dean
Evans at MAC, and outside the
college his strong Christian com
mitment shown forth as well.
Evans held an AB from Davidson
College and an MDiv degree from
Princeton Theological Seminary.
He had conducted additional study
at Columbia Theological Seminary
and was a lieutenant commander in
