The plans are almost ready for the contractors to bid on. These preliminary plans call fort the following: new electrical system, new plumbing, new exits for the back of the dorm, new I windows, new floor coverings, lower ceilings in all rooms, the I remodeling of tte bathrooms, an intercom system for the halls, new doors anc^ocks, new paint throughout the dorm, and new built in furniture for all rooms. The entrance ways to the cafeteria and the front of Howerton may be renovated in a limited way. These plans must be passed by the administration before anything can be done. If or when passed, the plans are then ready j for the contractors to bid on. Modifications on the plans may be necessary if the bids are all high. The work may be done by the start of fall semester for Howerton and hopefully the cafeteria too. Some work can be done while school is in progress so long as it doesn’t bother the students as they try to study. by Karl E. Peters Yet anoflier event has made its home in Montreat. The Bible .Olympics, an event sponsored by members of the M-AC faculty for area high school students was recently held on campus. The Bible Olympics are a series of tests on several areas of the Bible for fifteen through eighteen year olds. The idea, originally that of Dr. Jack Crawford, was to work for three causes. It would stimulate the interest of high schoolers in Bible, bring positive publicity to the school, and bring possible new students to the campus. The first two tests were written with the final as a “spelling bee” type test. All were designed by a five person committee consistmg ot Mr. Parks, Dean Carroll, Miss Brousseau, Dr. Newton, and Dr. Crawford with each person working on a par ticular area of Biblical study. Turnout, although less than expected, was quite adequate. All thirteen did well. Volunteers from the Christian Education class helped in grading. Several visitors looked on as the seven finalists competed in the “spelling bee” type competition. A local girl, Elizabeth McCay, was the final winner and took home $50 for her efforts. The question that won it; “Name the person who stole some of the goods from Jerusalem and let the Jews suffer.’ ’ Second and third place rewards were given out along with certificates of merit to those who finished with honorable men^’on. Plans for the future of the Olympics include the possibility of a scholarship for the winner, making it more school oriented.
