12, No. 1 Administration Speaks Each year as we begin a new college session, I am encouraged by the en thusiasm and youthful vigor of the students and I want very much to help channel this into worthy action and by setting some goals each we have something to begin our plans for the new year. Here are some of our goals for our beginning: 1. To have a more repre sentative Student Activi ty Committee by asking each dorm to elect or select 2 students to be their spokesman to the committee. 2. To have more Dorm sponsored activities in order to provide dorm teamwork. 3. To encourage each stu dent to participate in at least one Intramural sport as well as to be active in some other organized interest group of their choosing. 4. Try to secure speakers in vocations that would appeal to M-AC students. 5. Try to arrange some con certs in cooperation with nearby schools such as Brevard, Warren Wilson and Mars Hill. 6. Encourage the establish ment of personal goals supported by daily Bible study for each student. 7. The Sophomores will ap preciate this: Clear out the cluttered shelves in the Bookstore! 8. My personal goal in my work as the Director of Student Activities has two parts: (A) To be a closer friend to as many students as I possibly can. (B) To try to live by Micah 6:8...to do just ly, love mercy and to walk humbly with my Lord as I carry on to bring as much sunshine and joy to the students. - Mrs. "A ” I wish to give a warm welcome back to all the sophomores and an espe cially warm welcome to new students. As your Dean, I sincerely hope this year will be a happy, successful and profitable one. If you have personal needs which de serve attention, come see me. As Dean of Students, my goals for this year are simple and to the point. That: 1. Each one shall succeed academically! 2. Each one shall grow spiritually! 3. Each one shall make and keep new friends! 4. Each one shall stay healthy and be happy! 5. Each one shall attain their aspirations of career goals! 6. Each one shall develop an attitude of love And respect for others! 7. Each one shall develop a strong love for Christ which shall unite us; then serve Him! Come by and visit when, you can! - Dean Wilson It is good to be able to say hello to all the new and returning students, and to welcome you each one as a member of the Montreat- Anderson team. We are real ly a team working together in the exciting task of learn ing and sharing in an en vironment where Christ is honored and glorified. My goals for this year in clude helping every student to progress at the best contimuED ok p^Gt f Jay Watson — our fearless leader and SGA President. Element’ry My Dear Larry Wilson, Silas Vaughn, David Parks, and Mellon Andrews. by Susan H. Teague I had the distinct privilege of asking our 1982-83 Stu dent Government Associa tion President here at Montreat-Anderson, Jay Watson, a few questions about the academic year ahead. When asked about his goals and aspirations for the upcoming year, there was little hesitation in his response. “With all sincerity and a restful assurance in the possibility. Jay related his desire to see all M-AC students grow spiritually... “for those who are already Christians to be strengthen ed and to fall deeper in love with the Lord, and for those who are not Christians to come to know Him and make Him Lord of their lives.” Jay expressed that he would very much like to see unity among the students and the faculty/administra tion continue this year. He shared his hopes for a oneness on campus, a spirit of unity. “I especially want the new Freshmen to feel at home here. In any way I can I want to help make their adjust ment from home to school an easy one. “I would like to see the Sophomores search out and seek direction and definite goals for their lives this year,” and he shared his hopes to be open and available for any sugges tions from students on bet tering our school and our campus life here at M-AC. “I hope everybody will feel welcome to attend the SGA meetings this year. We want your ideas, your com plaints, your imput.” The SGA is open to all who wish to participate and meetings will be held every other Mon day at 6:15 P.M. in the Library. Jay stated that he is look ing forward to a great year with the new SGA officers, especially his secretary... (He made me write that!) This years’ elected officers are Jim Oxford, Vice- president; Janet Bickett, Treasurer; apd Susan Teague; secretary. Even though Jay knows it is not part of his respon sibility as SGA President this year, he Stressed that he would love to see the Stu dent Christian Association (SCA) grow and be strengthened this year and have a stronger influence on campus. “It is a very impor tant part of the school,” he feels. Because Montreat- Anderson College bears the respectable title of Chris tian, Jay wants us “to lift Jesus up in everything: academics, activities, athletics...in all that we do to glorify Jesus.” With these goals, with this kind of encouraging outlook on the year, and with such a love and caring concern for the students, we can all look forward to a great year with our new SGA President.
