Murder In the Cathedral: Our Thespians Do It Again RENEE JENKINS M-AC is preparing for another great performance, This time it's "Murder in the Cathedral" by T.S. Eliot. The play is based or) the story of the martyrdom of Thomas A Beckett. Melissa Allison, publicity manager, stated "Drama is the way to transport the mind to the realm of the past, present, and future. We hope to create this illusion and bring you along with us," Ms, Martha McDonald is directing the production with the lead being played by Sammy Dukes. There are still small roles and odd jobs open for anyone interested. The play will be presented on February 21st and there will be no admission charge. The play promises to be a good one, so support M-AC and "transport your mind." In the previous two Presidential debates. Carter and Mondale both knew the important Issues, but Reagan gave them very little opportunity to debate them. Rather, it became an election whose foundations were based more on publicity and eloquent speeches than on the important matters at hand. This was, of course, the type of election that Reagan wanted and in both cases, he got just what he needed to win. To- visualize this political philosophy, just read the paper or watch the news. The two front running candidates have already been given their labels. Bush is a wimp and Hart is a womanizing Spuds-Mackenzle in a business suit. While their characters are important factors, since when is it the only consideration? In my opinion, both men, while they are highly qualified, may have IrouLle winning their nominations for the simple fact that neither of them looks or speaks very well in front of the camera. Why should that matter so much when Reagan can't even do a press conference without reading 5X7 cards? If he is asked a question and does not have the answer right in front of him, he weasels his way around the answer. Either that, or one of his henchmen steps forward and wards off the question for him, To me, that's not the type of person this country needs for President. His foreign policy is nonexistent. I think attempting to assasinate Kadafhi is a good example of the type of policy Reagan employs: short term solutions for long term problems. People often say that President Reagan has stabilized this country. To me, he has done more damage over the past seven years than any President I've studied, except of course for Nixon. We don't need another personality like Reagan running this country in the future; we need someone who has an attention span longer than a rock, and a person who Is a strong leader. Reagan has none of those attributes. Maybe at . one time he did, but not while he was in the office of President. Reagan has developed into a lame-duck President who relies on his cabinet to run this country. Without Howard Baker or George Shultz to cover his tracks, he would undoubtly unravel, and the country would follow very close behind, in the upcoming election the voting public should strive to overcome this idiotic paradox called "Reganizatlon". For, if we don't, we will be burdened with another "Reaganlte" who could assuredly damage the strength of this nation for years to come.
