Letters From Home
Dear Students,
Last night, Wed
nesday, September 5,
the USS O'Brien
DD975, put into port
an Bah Raim, Qatar,
and for the first time in
weeks received mail.
At six o'clock this
morning a call came to
the head quarters in
San Francisco saying
that the crew members
were ecststic that they
had received letters
from Montreat-Ander
son College, and they
greatly appreciated
them. The sailors were
moved that the people
back home supported
them enough to write.
The sailors are
interested in hearing
about anything that
has to do with home.
They want to know
what we are seeing on
TV, how the baseball
season is shaping up,
and about life in gen
eral. If you do write,
you are requested to
include your return
address.
In talking to Matt
Haney, a former Navy
man,I learned that the
sailors were all jump
ing for mail, especially
those smelling of per
fume.
Please write to
our soldiers in the
Middle East. They
need your support.
(Editor's Note: This let
ter is addressed to the
students of Montreat-
Anderson in apprecia
tion of letters sent to
service men stationed in
the Middle-East. If you
would like to write to
one of our service men
on the USS O'Brian
DD975 the address is,
Ship Crew Member
USS O'Brian DD975
Fleet Post Office
San Francisco, CA
96674-1213
(Letters may be placed in
a box located on the bul
letin boards in Gaither.)

When I received
the letter on this page
recently, I was moved
by the impact that a
few students could
have on so many.
The Bible always
speaks about the vic
tory held in the meek
and not always the
mighty. In this case,
the triumph came
when the sailors on
the USS O'Brian re
ceived mail from a few
Montreat-Anderson
students.
Writing is a skill
that all have been
given, but few use. Al
though you may not
be the best writer in
the world, to take time
and write one of these
men could be tiie best
ministry you might
have.
I thank all those
who wrote, and en
courage everyone else
to take time and drop
a line.
