M-AC Embraces the Future
By John Ireland
Assistant-Editor
If you have been
plugged into the informa
tion lines here at M-AC you
may have heard that McG
regor is going to be tom
down because of bad
plumbing, poor wiring, etc.
Perhaps you managed to
catch the drawing at the
bottom of page five in the
last issue of The Aletheia
Weekly, and, through a
process of careful elimina
tion, deduced that the build
ing shown doesn’t exist at
Montreat. Maybe you have
even heard that McGregor
will be destroyed and re
placed with the aforemen
tioned building.
These rumors and oth
ers like them have stemmed
from a lack of knowledge
about a new campaign
which is being run by the
Montreat-Anderson Col
lege Foundation in an ef
fort to raise $10 million two things: Montreat be-
dollars for six areas in coming an accredited four-
which the Board of Tms- year institution, and a study
tees feel expansion is which predicts a tremen-
needed. The breakdown of dous growth in student
the programs and their al
lotted money is as follows:
$3,750,000 for a new dor
mitory, $3,000,000 for an
endowment, $2,250,000
for ongoing support,
$75,000 for library acqui
sitions, $625,000 for a con
tingency fund, and
$750,000 for the renova
tion of existing buildings.
This campaign with its
designated areas of im
provements is the result of
population within the next
four years. The student
population at M-AC is
expected to reach 550 re
sulting from the new pro
grams.
The new dorm has been
designed to accommodate
160 students and a campus
infirmary. According to an
informative pamphlet that
is being distributed by the
M-AC Foundation, this
project will also include.
“a main lobby and recep
tion area, a resident direc
tor apartment, laundry fa
cilities, vending areas,
lounges on each floor, a
courtyard and six infirmary
rooms.” As of yet the build
ing has no name, and the
rights to the name will be
given to the person or group
who donates a million dol
lars or more.
In addition to current
goals, there is also a desire
to raise an additional
$4,800,000. This money
will go toward the construc
tion of a Sports and Stu
dent Life Center
($4,000,000), the establish
ment of a Computer-based
Information Center
($50,000), and construction
of a Chapel ($750,000). The
Sports and Student Life
Center will contain areas
for intercollegiate sports, a
lifetime sports and fitness
