Tage. ^wo, SrUDLiVT GOVERNMENT ASSOCE\ TION UPDATE: STUDENT GOVERNMENT LEGISLATIVE by Kim White One of the purposes of the Student Government Association according to the Constitution is “to make recommendations to the administration and/or faculty concerning areas outside student control.” All members of the stu dent body are encouraged to attend Legislative meet ing Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. to voice their concerns and ideas for im provements in campus life. S.G.A. Legislative has approved the organization of a Pep Squad/Dance Team. The team will con sist of 8 to 12 students who will perform up to 10 routines as half-time en tertainment at basketball games. According to the proposal submitted by Samantha Steelman, the team does not intend to interfere with the efforts of the cheerleading team, but instead to assist in crowd participation and in encouraging enthusiasm. Mrs. Brenda Vincent will sponsor the team. A topic which has been brought before the admini stration is inadequate parking on campus and the high cost of parking regis tration. The Winsborough parking area is now avail able for day student park ing, but residents of McGregor and M-A Hall dormitories still struggle for space. President Hurt has addressed the prob lem and is exploring the possibilities of extending parking space behind Gaither and behind McG regor and paving the M-A Hall gravel lot. Students still seek satisfactory rea sons for inflating the park ing registration fee 133%, from $15.00 last year to $40.00 this year. S.G.A. Legislative voted to amend the constitution adding an International Student Representative to the S.G.A. Legislative Com mittee as a voting mem ber. Included on the com mittee now are: S.G.A. President, S.G.A. Vice President, S.G.A. Secre tary/Treasurer, Class Presidents, Dorni Presi dents, Day Student Rep resentative, and two Fresh man Representatives; therefore, each member of the student body is repre sented three ways: by the three governing members, by where he/she lives, and by his/her class. Adding a representative from the internationals may assist this special group in com- IMAGES OF THE FUTURE: RENOVATIONS REPORT by A1 Goodman There is a saying that states, “Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door.” I am not implying Montreat-Anderson Col lege is a mouse trap, but the campus will undergo physical changes to im prove the look of it. A goal of $750,000 has been set for the college to use for campus renovations. A committee has been cre ated to oversee and rec ommend the top priorities for these renovations. Lloyd Davis chairs this committee with Kathy Balinski, Bob Graham, Rich Gray, Walter Hall, Dan Hensley, Pete McDanel and Jim Suther land as members. “Each member is as signed buildings to look over and suggest for reno vations,” said Kathy Bal inski. Once these sugges tions are written down, they are given to Mr. Hall and Mr. Hensley to see which renovations need immediate attention. Af ter getting price estimates, a top ten list is compiled. This list will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in October. Ms. Balinski reported that the first list of renova tions did not use the entire $750,000. Therefore, another list of renovations must be submitted to use the money designated for this project. If you have any suggestions for the Renovations Committee, please submit these ideas to any of the committee members. This is your opportunity to become involved in helping Mon treat-Anderson College become a place of majes tic beauty. municating better their unique ideas and views; however, such an addition may upset the delicate balance of equal represen tation to student govern ment. The amendment will require a 2/3 vote by the student body to become effective; this vote will probably take place in the spring. S.G.A. is seeking a unique design for the S.G.A. sweatshirt. The design should include the theme for this yeai', “Serve to Lead,” along with “Montreat-Anderson Col lege S.G.A.”. Sketches should be submitted to Kim White via campus mail before October7. The winner will receive $20.00 and a free sweatshirt. Sweatshirts will be avail able to the student body at cost. ^ STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOGIATION EXECUTIVE President: ReidCavnar Vice-President: Matt Haney Secretary Treasurer: Kim White Honor Court President: Kevin Auman Student Activities Chairman: Tara Paquette Senior Class President: Leslie Blow Junior Class President: Naj Alicea Sophmore Class President: MarkBolick Freshman Class President: Shayna $iekkinen
