Cavs Suffer Disappointing Loss
By Matt Haney
The Cavs, coming off of a three
game win streak, travelled across the
Great Smokies to take on theTennessee
Temple Crusaders of Chattanooga, in
an inportant conference match up.
By the ten minute mark in the first
half, the Cmsaders led by the scoring of
Cooke and Hunte, had jumped out to a
comfortable 26-17 margin. Fortherest
of the half, the Cavs defense held the
Crusaders in check. However, offen
sively they were not able to close the
gap, and went into the locker room
down by 12.
The Cavs, widi a barrage of scor
ing from Aaron Gabriel and Rodney
Scott, pulled to within 2 points of the
Crusaders at the 13:17 mark of the
second half. But this night was not to be
marked with a dramatic come from
behind victory on the part of the Mon
treal-Anderson Cavaliers. TN-Tenple
battened-down the hatches and weath
ered the storm, recollecting themselves
and eventually winning 82 to 70 deci
sion.
A quote from Coach McNamara
after the game summarized the Cavs'
effort: "Wejustcouldn'tconvertwhen
we had too. We got out-muscled on
the boards, getting only 21 rebounds,"^
by far our weakest effort of the sea
son."
Friday, the Cavs will be battling
Tom Hilgers’ alma mater. Covenant
College. Covenant defeated the Cavs
early on this season, on their home
floor at Lookout Mountain, Georgia,
byascoreof95-70. Since that defeat
the Cavs have won 5 of 7 conference
match ups while Covenant has slid to
a 4 - 7 conference record.
When asked what he expected
from the "now more mature Cavs" in
the "Cavs' House", Coach Brooks of
Covenant responded, "We're looking

The paddling club is an organiza

Paddling Qub isn't for those interested
in ping-pong nor for those who are fond
of corporal punishment, it is more an
outdoor thing. Canoeing, kayaking, and
rafting to say the least
LastSaturday, the 13th, 14Mon-
treai-Anderson College students ven
tured out to the Nantahala Gorge, about
an hour and a half west of Montreal
Some of them amateurs and some of
them "pros". They all went with the
same motive, that of taking on the river.
They started out at about 10:30
in the 26 degree weather. (Their first
challenge was braving that.) The
rookies stuck together and rafted the
creek, while the others canoed and
kayaked. They drifted and soared
over the rocks and rushing rapids for
about two hours. After that they
grilled burgers and hot dogs to tame
their husky appetites. Everyone
seemed to walk away a little more
experienced in the misty mountain
way of life.
When Lovanda Fast was asked
what she thought of the trip she replied,
"It's a great club for anyone who enjoys
kayaking and canoeing."
The paddling club is now trying to
bacome a new organization at M-AC,
and with theinterest and participation so
far, it will surely be a success.

Another Kind of Prejudice
by Mark Wright
Has anyone else noticed the general feeling of prejudice at this college? No,
I don't mean racial prejudice. That's real, too, but I mean the feeling that Christianity
is a club to which we, the saved, are the only members and all others are to be
excluded. This is unfair and in contradiction to God’s word. Paul wrote that "...Christ
Jesus came into the world to save sinners-of whom I am the worst. But for that very
reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might
display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe in him and
receive eternal life" (ITim. 1:15-16). Forexample, it's true that there are a great many
celebrities who are atheists, or follow some other religious practice. Yes, these
people are in sin and will eventually face judgement. That judgement, however, will
be delivered by God, not us. Instead of turning our backs on these people, and
criticizing everything that is wrong with them, we should be praying that they will
turn around. There are many otherwise good people in this world who have just
missed the mark when it comes to God. Instead of saying "I don’t like him, he's an
atheist," shouldn't we be praying that he will become a Christian, so that his life can
be used by God?
Similarly, there is an awful lot of talk denouncing homosexuality at this school.
Again, I agree that homosexuality is abhorrent to God and that gays will be judged,
but they are still people. As Christians, we are called to hate the sin, but love the
people: "...warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient
with everyone" (I Thess.5:14). The people caught up in it need prayer; they can still
be saved. Also, why is this particular sin the one that gets the most criticism? We
don't condemn thieves, liars, or even murderers as much.
After all, none of us are sinless. The only difference between our sins and those
of non-Christians is that ours are forgiven, not that our sins are any less terrible. Sin
is sin. Instead of writing off non-Christians, condemning them to Hell (which is
judgement, forbidden in Matt. 7:1-5), we should be praying that they will turn to
Christ, and worry about our own sins.

M-AC Coffeehouse a Success
By Shallmar Kinsey
As the music of Chris Blair and Todd Mahaffey made its way out of McGregor Hall
Lobby last Friday, it seemed to lure students, faculty, and community in one by one. The
evening lasting until 11 pn, was spent worshipping, singing, and relaxing while enjoying
Chris Blair. The music shifted back and forth from songs extoUing Carolina's beauty and
virtue to audience sing-a-longs to ballads that were influenced by everyday expreriences.
"Savior of the World," a song Blair has been working on arxl has never played in
public before, was a "grand finale for such an evening."
When asked, during intermission, how he thought the coffeehouse was going, arxl
how he liked the Montreat-Anderson audience, he replied, "They're having fim and fm
having fun. It's nice when folks sing and interact"
Ladies Play Hard Despite Losses
By Kathryn Letterman
On Saturday, January 23, the
Lady Cavalier Basketball team suf
fered a loss to Tennessee Tertple at
Chattanooga, withafinalscoreof74-77.
The Lady Cavs did not start off
well in the first half, and spent most of
the game trying to catch-up. The Lady
Cavs successfully did just that and by
half-time Tennessee Temple was ahead
by only a few points.
Coach Dana Bostic commented
on the team's loss saying, "We only had
seven players that were able to play, and
we also experienced some foul trouble.

Although theLadyCavsstmggled
throughout the game, the ladies played
hard, Jennifer Hobbs, Player of the
Game, scored high with atotal of thirty-
three points. Cani Lucksavage, also a
key player in this game, not only scored
twelve points, but had a total of eleven
rebounds. It took the Lady Cavs time to
get into the game, but once they settled
in, their confidence increased.
