What are you thinking about.as your summer break-approaches?- If your like any normal college student
your probably thinking abo.ut what you are going to do with your family over.break, what friends you'll see ■■
or make over the next months, what wprk you still need to do for the end of the semester, etc. , .
I'know.that as 1 approach this next four months the Lord has been'co'ntinually pressing on.my heart his ,
attitude of humility and how much I miss when I am consumed and focused with’myself We read and
understand that at the core of Jesus’teaching and life is the message that we must loose our life in order to
gain it. The gospel of John records John the Baptist’s testimony saying, “He [Christ] must become, greater;
I must become less” (John 3:30). ' • ' ' ' •
People say that man’s greatest testimony to how .he believes is best seen through his actions (i.e. actions
speak louder than words). Thus,,as some of us travel home to family and friends, start that new job, return
fo your normal summer job or'hang around here we, are going to be in contact -with, people who may or
may no.t be believers. But, our greatest tpstimony to Christ is often not spouting Scripture to everyone we
-see/but instead it is living a selfless life. .
. Tlie Lord challenges us in humility to give up our life and our desires in order that we may give ourselves "
completely to others and thus to the Lord, Therefore, the challenge for not only my life, but also, yours,
is that we begin to livc-this life of selflessness and start it. this summer. Maybe we need to ask how
we-can take the I out of the questions what am I going to do with my family, -what friends will I see .
or make over the next few months-, or what work do I need to do for the semester and add the what the ■ -
Lord desires instead! ' ■ -
Jesus lowered himself to nothing, becoming a suffering servant on our behalf We are called to do the
same. Start this summer, .'.your attitude-and lifestyle of .selflessness is the best testimony to your relationship
with Christl-
