(Hebrews 3:16) By Tim Tyson On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked by an as.yet unknown group in the biggest act of terror ism in the world. As the initial reaction to this attack. Montreat College began fonningan initial counterattack. By rc-scheduling the American Eco systems convocation set for today, Chaplain Bill Cain allowed for a collective call to prayer to go out to the school. As the country reeled, God's people came together to pray for the victims and their families, our leaders, the assailants, and our country. At the prayer meeting. Presi dent Hurt called the World Trade event ‘The biggest attack on Amer ican soil since Pearl Harbor.” The Chaplain broke those in attendance into smaller groups of 5 to 6 so that instead of just one person lead ing in prayer, all would pray. For forty plus minutes, those crammed into the Gaither sanctuary came together with one pleading voice to .Icsus Christ. Montreat students join Chaplain Bill C.ain in observing a campus-wide momeni of silence and prayer lor the victims of Tuesday's .-\tiack The wide variety of emotions expressed at this school and indeed our whole counti-y range from a state of shock to mourning to anger to fnistration to concern to just about anything that can be felt. What the leadership at Montreal College w'ants to establish, which is evident through the prayer meet ing, is that wc should look to Jesus Chri.st. Even in this state of stunned confusion, God can turn anything of the enemy into a shining exam ple of his Grace, Mercy, and Love. The one constant it seems that we can rely on is that Jesus will always be there. For he. has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted: and he has not hid his face from him, hut has heard, when he cried to him.
