Faeing local rival, Warren Wilson College, the Cavs Once again proved that “it ain’t over till it’s over”, as they were forced to come back from a 1-4 deficit to defeat the Owls by a final score of 5-4. The after noon started on a prom ising note as Montreal put immediate pressure on the Owl net. They were rewarded with an early penalty kick as fresh Jaime Apreda (Buenos Aires AFG) was brought down in the Wilson penalty box. Freshman Nick Black (Candler NC) calmly slotted the Penalty kick into the comer of the net to give Montreal the early 1 -0 lead. The next fifteen minutes were pivotal as the Cavs missed some easy opportunities to take the com manding two-goal lead, and Warren Wilson tied the game on a long ehip over freshman keeper Brian Adams (Asheville NC). With the momen tum on the Owl side, the wheels started to eome off for Montreal who saw the Owls score again on Adams and then score two more on freshman David Schermerhom (Black Mountain NC) to take a 4-1 lead early into the second half Determined not to give the Owls their first win in the long history of Montreal soccer, the Cavs dug their heels in and started to battle back. David Vertner (Jackson ville FL) shifted the momentum to the Cavs |j on a beautiful solo run and goal to eut the defi cit to two with twenty-seven min utes to play. With junior Brandon Love (Gastonia NC) minding the Cav net and the defense stifling all Owl attacks, the Cavs started blast ing the net and creating scoring opportunities. Finally, with six teen minutes to play, a long shot by sophomore Jonathan Adeock (Candler NC) was unintentionally deflected in by an Owl defender to bring the Cavs within one goal. Jaime Apreda tied the game with three minutes left after slieing through the entire Wilson defense and slotting the shot pa.st the help less Owl keeper. With everyone thinking “overtime”, junior Jeff Bryson (Florsc Shoe NC) headed the game winner past the stunned Wilson keeper after a great effort in the box to give Montreal another inercdible come- from-behind victory in the closing minutes of the match. the catalyst behind the Tarbell Patten, u.= ““7”- with a , Club (second from Running few of his runners. or have questions give him a 6303. call at ext. mmuies or me maten. 63ua. 1 Montreat’s Running CIud October 19th Women’s Soccer Home vs. Lees-McRae at 2pm October 20th Men’s Soccer Away vs. Union at 3pm, Kid’s Night Out at 5pm October 23rd Women’s Soccer Away vs. Lee University at 5pm, Men’s Soccer Away vs. Lee University at 7:30pm October 24th Volleyball Away vs. Brevard at 7pm October 25th Women’s Soccer Away vs. Mars Hill at 6pm, Men’s and Women’s Basketball Midnight Madness at 10pm October 27th Volleyball Away vs. Bryan at 11 am.
