Girls Flip for American Idol By Lyndsay Mayer On any given Tuesday night, every resident of Anderson’s third floor piles onto Amanda Griffin’s king-size bed. The credits roll, and the squeals are subdued as all eyes are on the television screen for another episode of American Idol. Tara Jobson, an Anderson RA, is the ringleader of this Idol-crazed crew. “I am Kelly Clarkson,” boasts Jobson, continually refening to her self as last season’s American Idol winner. Kelly Clarkson is good, but Jenni Sheets is my hero.” Morgan and GrilTin also nominate the Grinch, to replace the sullen Simon Cowell. Idol is becoming a bonding ritual, according to Jenna Hood. “It’s really fun to w'ateh Simon be mean to everyone and pick people apart and judge how everyone sings. It builds community on our hall. We all watch it together.” Others are not so certain it’s worth their time. “1 think it’s shal low, another attempt to suck people in and prey off their insecurities and dreams,” says one student boldly. ‘it’s overrated and not worth my energy.
