she says, “the size of the city is
perfect for me. It hardly ever gets
cold.” The senior has also been
to Canada, Holland, Scotland,
and Mexico.
Sophomore Danielle Hiatt
from Marion, NC wants to visit
Paris, France to “eat at all the
little sidewalk cafes, and visit
all of the museums.” The human
services major also wants to ogle
at “all the cute Paris men.”

Volunteers Aid Victims

In addition, homeowners who
did not receive much damage
have opened their homes to their
neighbors.
The group crashed each night
at Gulf Breeze United Methodist
Church over the weekend. The
church had a list of residents
requesting volunteer assistance,
and the group responded to five
homes on the list.
Gulf Breeze residents openly
received the help. “People were
overwhelmingly thankful, con
sidering us ‘angles sent from
above,”’ Heckman reflects. “It
makes you glad to do whatever
you can ...and thankful for what
you have.”
The majority of the finances
for this trip came from Montreat
College and Montreat Presbyte
rian Church.
“We were really excited
about going,” says Nelson, “and
accomplishing as much as we
could in the short amount of time
we had.”
West asserts, “I hope that the
students that participate in the
trip will come closer together
in the midst of this tragedy and
respond to what we were created
to do, which is to serve.”
During Ivan’s rampage, 52
people in the U.S. lost their lives,
16 of which perished in Florida.

damage in the U.S. alone at $5 to
$15 billion.

“ and thinks it’s “probably the
most clean, most decent place to

Jeremiah Siemens would
like to go to Canada. “I like
the cold weather,” the junior
says. Siemens would also like
to spend time in Mexico, where
the history major vacationed
and “enjoyed the coffee and the
orange juice.”
