Hollywood Weekend Continued from Page 6 sat with Pope’s family when he was awarded a spot on the elite team, RadioShack Best XI. Leonardi says his talks with the players influenced him to do better in life and as a soccer player. He plans on playing next year for the Cavaliers Soccer Team. Because of an accident during his senior year of high school, which lead to reconstructive sur gery on his knee, he took a year off from playing. “Most of the players were so awesome about talking witli me about tlieir awards and how everything was going in soccer,” says Leonardi. “1 told them a little about what I was going through and they were really supportive about it. They told me to keep my head up and work hard.” Accepting the trip at such short notice did have its consequences. “I’ve been fired from My Fatlier’s Pi2za for taking this once in a life time opportunity hip,” Leonardi says. “I was working at the res taurant and everything was going good. But I could not find anyone to cover my shift. “When Saturday came up and I called a friend who worked there with me, she had told me that they marked my name off the sched ule.” Powell and Leonardi also missed a day of classes, since tliey traveled back to school on Monday. Overall Leonardi looks at the trip as “a gift from God, because who else out of 300,000 people from a drawing is going to get picked, especially from a small local area like this.” Page 8, Dec. 10,2004 The Whetstone Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
