Lucas Fisher and Becca Snyder rehearse for the up-coming performance of “The Ugly Duckling”, part
of An Evening of One Acts,
Montreat College presents the Series with An Evening
£nal event of this year’s Theatre of One Acts - Friday and
Saturday, April 22-23 at
7:30 pm in Gaither Chapel. This
promises to be a great evenings
of theatre featuring three one-act
plays.
“The Ugly Duckling” is a rich
comedy with a great spin on
relationships and happily ever
after. “Love and How to Cure
It” is a short gem about mem
bers of a theatre company in the
early 1900’s who grapple with
just that - love and how to cure
it. “The Breaking of Bread” is a
Civil War piece about two young
soldiers who bargain for a loaf of
bread with their lives with unex
pected results.
Carol Anderson, assistant
professor of theatre at Montreat,
is directing the plays and says
she is delighted with the strong
cast comprised of students,
community and faculty. “It’s a
very joyful rehearsal process.
Everyone’s enjoying the oppor
tunity to work with new people
and the challenge and fun of
bringing these plays to life. I’ve
done a lot of theatre and this is
going to be a wonderful produc
tion.”
An Evening of One
Acts is the final offering
of this season’s Fine Arts
Theatre Series season
where events have been
marked with high quality
theatre artists and enthusiastic
audience response.

How E-mail Pranksters Duped Campus
by Kortney Blythe
On Wednesday, March 2,
students, staff, and faculty
received a hoax e-mail posing
as President Struble, canceling
all classes due to “inclement
weather.” The e-mail came from
a Hotmail account under the name
danstruble@hotmail.com at a time
when many professors had sched
uled midterms. Junior Adam
Ripley and sophomore Andrew
May masterminded the prank after
previous days of heavy snow. The
following interview takes an in-
depth look at the two perpetrators.
Kortney: What gave you the idea?
Adam Ripley: I had the idea last
year. But I didn’t have anybody
to do it with, and I didn’t want
to do it by myself A particular
student had the idea this year and
recommended doing it I decided
that I would do it. That particular
student decided not to be involved
because he was worried about
the consequences. So I ended up
doing it with Andrew May.
Andrew May: [Adam] and me
and another buddy of mine were
hanging out in my room about 12:
30 or so. And there was snow on
the ground. The other fiiend said.
“...whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of
I good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything
I worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. ”
- Philippians 4:8 NIV
“You know what would
be so easy to do?” And
he presented the idea. But
then he backed out I was
like, “yeah, let’s do this.
It’s funny.”
K: What went into plan
ning it?
Adam: I had to figure out
where to do it so that they
couldn’t track my Inter
net port. So, I decided to
do it fi-om [an off-campus
student’s] front porch at 2
in the morning. He was
asleep in his house. It
was really cold, like 20 degrees,
and my hands were frozen when
1 was done. I had to put a comma
in between every single one of the
e-mail addresses and it took about
2 hours to complete.
Andrew: Deciding the wording
because we wanted to make it
sounds official like it was Strable
himself That was pretty much it.
We went through a couple ideas
like going to BeUc, but they have
cameras. Hmm, how are we going
to do this without them fracing
it back? So we decided to go to
someone’s house where there was
wireless.
K: Did you think that people
would take it seriously?
Andrew: Yeah, and I kind of lazily
didn’t want to go to classes. I was
like: this will be great! But I ended
up going anyway.
