STUDENT SERVICES
’T7i& lOMijia
The Writing Center is designed to help students become the best writers they can be. It provides a
laid-back atmosphere in which you can have writings reviewed by a fellow student. We are not simply
“paper doctors,” but rather peer tutors who will encourage critical thinking and strong writing. We are
open Sunday through Thursday between 6 and 11 PM and located on the second floor of the Library
in the Computer Lab. Come by and visit us - we cant wait to see you.

Vces,
I’m Cathy James, the new Director of the Writing Center and old instructor of English Composition, and I’m thankful God has brought
together such a dynamic team of student writers to serve as tutors this year. When I first stepped onto the Montreat campus four years ago,
I heard the trickling creek, saw^ the lush green foliage and knew God had brought me here. And that was even before I met any of the hearty
souls who make Montreat the nurturing, spiritual community it is. I live in Asheville with my fourteen year old daughter. I’m working on my
M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Pacific Lutheran University and I’m looking forward to being a 2010 graduate. A native of Alabama, I lived in
Georgia before moving to North Carolina ten years ago. I’ve been writing all the while and have been published in literary journals such as
Relief: A Quarterly of ChriSSan Expression, Heliotrope and Utne. Writing is how I learn, how I create and how I make sense of the world.
