7 lPage2 I March 22,201 r FROM THE EDITOR Hello everyone, Top of the March to you! I hope your spring breaks were each very sensational in their own ways. I know mine was. I went to Panama City Beach and then watched a lot of Kung Fu movies at home. For the record, Tony Jaa is the new Chuck Norris. But hey. On a more serious note, I found the letter printed on the right in my mailbox this month. The writer makes a good point. The Whetstone ought to be be fun, not ugly. Please, if there’s any problem at all, please take it up with us before confronting the author of the article. Thanks! ~ Daniel Sellers, Editor OArt Clokey “Why would anyone want to use the student voice to voice their opinions when they’re only met with disdain and anger, and told they are ignorant? A recent article in the Whetstone voiced a student’s opinion on the low quality of internet available at this school. After published, this student was immediately the target of anger by many individuals. For merely voicing her opinion, the thing that the Whetstone encourages and asks for, she was reprimanded and attacked. This is not the first incident of this type. Last spring a student published an intentionally satirical “review” of cafeteria food. She intended to make people laugh; in stead she was attacked, ridiculed, and personally mocked, all for using the “Montreat Voice” to express herself. First of all, if someone has a complaint about some thing in the Whetstone, they are legally not allowed to contact or attack the writer. All articles become the property and responsibility of the Whetstone. If you have a complaint, contact the paper. Write a rebuttal. Talk ing about the writer in a negative way to other people or contacting the writer is wrong. Their article is their opin ion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. If you published your opinion, would you want people being cruel to you? Think about it. ” - Anonymous (Q _ ,—, Montreal College Box 83^ Montreat, NC 28757 ^ (828) 669-8012. ext 3675 mcwhe tstone gmai i .com nJorJ Vhctstmi SUontreut Cofftae's Stu/tnt ^oki Writers Nathan Adams Jesse Merritt Daniel Sellers Lucas Smith Josh Van Dine Josh Oksnevad Caitlin Neal Abcdncgo McBurrough Matt Rushing Caitlin Demp^y Marshall McDonald Staff Daniel Sellers MK Bellamy Imari Scarbrough Photograph'S Daniel Sellers Heather Carr Julie Engelsman The Whetstone is published monthly while school is in session.
