COMMUNITY Representative Cam Boles Greetings, Welcome to another year at Montreat College from your Student Government. We sincerely hope that you have had a wonderful summer filled with great memories and possibly some days where you slept until noon. As the semester has gotten started off with classes, it may seem too sudden and busy, especially for you freshman, but we hope that you rise to whatever challenges await and work to grow and expand your knowledge and understanding in a Christ- centered atmosphere. Along with how busy your summer may have been. Montreat has also had quite a busy, but God-blessed, summer, filled with promising updates looking to lead to a bright future for the Col lege. For anybody still unsure of the financial state of the College, we have some great news! The budget is balanced by a record number of donors and money donated. In other words, we are well on our way to clearing the 88th and last hurdle for the reaccreditation process! Aramark has been faced with the conflict of needing to raise room and board costs for students. In stead of immediately deciding tocharge more, Aramark decided to think about their customer’s (students) needs and wants first, before automatically increasing costs. So they diligently dug deeper and found that the proposed raise in tuition could be avoided at the cost of a few minor amenities: • Disallow meal swipes at the Huckleberry for Lunch (currently it is available for both Lunch and Dinner). • Eliminate Ice Cream in Howerton Dining Hall (still available to purchase at Huckleberry). • Create Winter Hours for the Huckleberry - Close the Huckleberry from 2-5 beginning around Mid to End of November. As of now, these changes will only be perma nent for the 2012 Fall Semester, as Aramark is very interested to receive student feedback on the issue (no tuition raise versus free ice cream) for the spring semester. We encourage you to write or email the Whetstone with any comments that you may have, and how you feel about the changes that have been made in the cafe. SGA has been busy in hopes of helping to make this year a great one for serving you (students) and truly giving a voice on behalf of your needs and desires to see certain changes around the College. We are currently working on a number of projects that we believe would make campus life a bit better and more enjoyable for all students. If any student has an idea, that is not already listed as a current project, that they believe would enhance their experience at Montreat, feel free to come by any SGA meeting at 9 pm on Tuesday nights in the Whetstone office on the main floor of the Belk Center. Also, feel free to ap proach any SGA member or RA in the dorms to voice your opinion or suggestion on how Montreat College could be improved. Our current projects include worship night, bon fires, Prayer Week, Hebrew language classes, SGA Convo, class trips, coffeehouses, and PowderPuff for Homecoming, along with other Homecoming events. Finally, check us out on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumble http;//www. facebook.com/MontreatCollegeSGA https://en.twitter.com/MontreatSGA http://montreatcollegesga.tumblr.com/ We hope you have a fantastic year, and grow in the knowledge and understanding of our Creator, and in the world in which He has commanded us to spread the good news!
