Campus News We re “All-In”!!! By: Collin Clarke A lot of people are really excited about this new movement! Mon treat College has declared that we, as a college community, are “all-in” for our college! According to all- in-montreat.com, “[The Montreat College community] believes that God is calling us to be All IN for the sake of the Kingdom and His plan for Montreat College”. This new movement is bringing lots of excitement to faculty and staff alike. I had the privilege of inter viewing our Interim President, Mr. Joe Kirkland. When asked, “How do you feel about the All-In decision?” Kirkland responded, “I feel really good about the All-In decision. It is a clear, forward direc tion and I think that’s important for Montreat College”. This shows that President Kirkland has a posi tive outlook in regards to the All-In decision. Another aspect of this initiative, concerns the search for a new president. According to the website, “On March 27,2014, the Presidential Search Committee re leased the Montreat College Presi dential Profile. [This profile] is an in-depth position description used by Carter Baldwin, our executive search firm, in search of Montreat College’s eighth president”. In my interview with President Kirkland, I found it important to know who he had in mind for the position of Montreat College’s presidential position. He responded, “[The new president of Montreat College should be] an individual who has a passion for our Christ-centered mission. [This individual should] understand higher education and the dramatic changes taking place currently. [The new president] should also have a desire to roll up their sleeves and get busy, bringing with them, a vision of the future for Montreat College”. President Kirkland also praises Montreat to continue to grow in his own professional role here at Montreat College”. President Kirkland feels confident in the decision he made regarding the All-In Steering Committee chair. I also thought it important to ask what Kirkland thought God’s mission for Mon treat College is. He responded, “My opinion was characterized when I made my opening convoca- College, stating, “We do a lot of things well here and we want to continue to do those things”. Presi dent Kirkland has a general idea of who he would choose as the new president. President Kirkland was also a key figure in appointing the All-In Steering Committee chair. When asked, “Was it a challenge to decide who would be the All-In Steering Committee chair?” he kindly responded, “There were many candidates who had poten tial. Daniel was selected based on his extraordinary leadership skills, his strong knowledge of Montreat College, his close connection with the students, and his desire tion speech, where I talked about learning to read. I suggested that people should learn to read the circumstances around them. In my opinion, God’s helping us to learn to read where we are right now. [l believe that] God’s mission for Montreat College is to raise up Christian men and women to go out and serve in Kingdom work”. President Kirkland also explains how these men and women need to serve in all the disciplines. “The world needs Christian journalists, Christian scientists, and Christian doctors. We find ourselves provid ing a biblical worldview in all our subject matter. Our mission is to remain Christ-centered, student- focused, and service-drivemPre^* dentKirUandhasagood P on the mission of Montreat CO I also got an interview with Trustee Board Mem ^ Justin Ramb. “This has e workforseveralmonths say^^^ Ramb about the AllW^^^j^^ along with other memb committee, saw this as a keep the school open an ful for the next lOO years. says that he wants t is P a pJoplee-tedandmotivated.^^, far as his own opinion go says,“I’msuperexcitedand^^^^^^^ this new movemen of an incredible future. j^pors thrilled and humble for [who graciously donate ^ the school] ”.
