Entertainment A Message From Our New SGA President I am honored to serve as next year’s SGA president for Montreat. For those of you who may not know me, my name is Zeb Whiteside. I will be a junior in the fall semester and a senior in the spring semester. My SGA experience began during my high school years. Despite the financial struggles of the high school, the SGA set and accomplished many goals. This experience helped me at Montreat. I have been involved during the most intense period of troubles when the school was considering closing, merging, and eventually creating the ALL IN initiative. Within the last couple months, I have taken the extra time to meet with Willie Mangum (Trustee and head of Alumni), Justin Ramb (Trustee), and other important individuals. My desire has always been to see Montreat flourish. Now that Montreat is ALL IN, I have the opportunity to assist current and future students through any accomplishments SGA achieves this coming year. As president of SGA, the following are a few of my goals. Not unlike previous SGA presidents, I want to strive to better the communica tion between faculty, students, and Trustees. A closer relationship is possible, and I believe next year’s SGA can begin this process by New Things Happening at Montreat maintaining a positive relationship with the new college president who is scheduled to be chosen in June. Once the new president arrives at Montreat, I want SGA to interact frequently with this individual so that the president acts like a spokesperson for the student body. In addition, the ALL IN plan has the potential to make Montreat a college leading the charge in the search for a new higher education. During my time in SGA, I believe that it is neces sary for Montreat to think outside the box for new ideas. These ideas would include starting new aca demic programs such as a highly desired nursing program. A final goal will be for the SGA to help clarify any confusing rules and laws in the student handbook. 1 plan to spend the next several months discussing additional goals with my Cabinet. ALL IN has provided every stu dent at Montreat an opportunity to experience exciting changes. Next year’s SGA will be ready to leap at any occasion which ALL IN might provide. 1 am excited about the coming year and hope to provide the student body with the efficiency, hard work, and genuine leadership every student deserves. Your next SGA president, Zeb Whiteside By: Collin Clarke Attention Montreatians! Get ready for exciting things hap pening here at Montreat College! As of next fall, we will have a new 'Theatre major. 'This should be very exciting for anyone who has any interest in performing arts. We will also see Dr. Jim Shores take a new position as the head of the Envi ronmental Studies Department af ter stepping down as our Commu nications Department Head, and Mrs. Callan White-Hinman will be taking over as our new director of the Communications department. I’m sure that good things will come from these new changes. Also, we are adding both tennis and lacrosse to our sports programs. The students seem to be very excited about these new sports. This will also help bring in new students to our college community. Nothing but good can come from these new changes. In other news, the All-In Initiative is still going strong! Effective July 1 2014, William Haynes, an Alum of Montreat College, will serve as our new Chairman. According to the All-In website, “William Haynes has served as a college trustee for over 13 years”. This shows that Haynes has much experience. 1 feel that he will do great things pertaining to the future of Montreat Col lege. Concerning the Presidential Search, the Board of Trustees has decided to add Polly Haigler and Mark Snoddy to the presidential candidate list. 'The search seems to be going really well. After two months away, any familiar place can feel new and exciting, but after your summer break, prepare yourself for some really big, really wonderful, and really faithful changes to your col lege’s campus.
