The next renovation Montreat plans to do is refurbishing Howerton residence hall. If you have more questions about Montreats fu ture the President wants his students to understand that he has an open door policy and loves getting to know the driven minds on this campus. By Perry Goeders President Paul J. Maurer is a strong extrovert and an avid supporter of spreading love. He has a way of making every student feel individ ually cared for and important, and Montreat College has greatly benefit ed from his presence and dedication. Behind the scenes, Maurer proves to be even more wonderful than one would expect. When asked about his family dynam ic, Maurer humbly confesses that he has “married up” to his wife Joellen. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Maurer have four children: John, Liz, Daniel, and Sarah. They also have a Weimaraner dog named Jack. President Maur er likes to tell people that Jack is named after C.S. “Jack” Lewis, but the pooch’s namesake is actually Jack Bauer from the show “24”. Maurer’s favorite secondary color is Lavender. He especially likes to sport a lavender shirt and tie from time to time so keep an eye out. If you were to ask anyone to recite the lyrics to Rocket Man by Elton John, Maurer would be your guy. He knows every word...pretty impressive, right? He also loves to throw on some James Taylor from time to time when hes not listening to Anita Baker or Mo town Classics. Maurer loves stories that show ^ ^ full spectrum of humanity”. Sonie ot his favorite biblical characters li o David, Paul and Peter, men ripped from a place of pride an o back to the foot of the cross. Maurer grew up with very little recourses and privileges. Both o parents did not go to college, an they had to work very hard to provi a sustainable life. President Maurer could very easily be a prideful man considering all that he has accom plished, but he is quite the contrary Maurer is a genuinely gracious who seeks daily navigation from t ^ ^ Holy Spirit, and who gives all glory The Lord. There are a lot of new students on campus this year. The number of incoming students this year is esti mated to be larger than half of the entire population of Montreat last year. Get a stack of pancakes at Den ny’s for only $2. • Sit at the new square tables at the Caf to make it look like you’re on a date. . Buy a 12-pack of ramen from Ingles. It will last you at least a week. . Wait until at least the spring se mester to start dating. • Do Not: • Hammock on Gaither Lawn every night of the semester (note: beware of bears). . Wait until the last minute to get Freshmen Do’s and Do not’s Tyler Lee all your Convo credit. • Put your trash in the laundry room. .
