Pleasant Community by Betty Blanton Mrs. Buren Hamrick, Rev. Ronald McSwain and Mrs. Shull Whitaker attended Memorial Services for Mrs. Flack at the First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton on Monday and visited Miss Effie Champion, Mrs. Fannie Ramsey, and Mrs. Acquilla Scruggs, residents of Senior Citizen Homes in Rutherfordton and HclLs. Tuesday lunch guests of Mrs. Buren Hamrick were Mrs. Ida Simmons and Mrs. Kenneth Dobbins » * The Sunshine Club held their regular monthly meeting on Weeiiesday morning in the Church fellowship hall. Mrs. Kenneth Dobbins and Mrs. Buren Hamrick were hostesses tor the meeting and had created a pretty St Patrick’s Day setting for the affair. Mrs. Ethel Ray presided over the meeting. Mrs. Ranny Blanton led the opening prayer and Mrs. Ida Simmons gave a very inspiring devotional after which Mrs. Shull Whitaker led in prayer. Plans were made for the group to attend the Health Fair Day to be held in Shelby on Saturday, April 25. The group decided to sponsor a Morning Service on Wednes day, April I, for the Revival Meeting and to serve lunch following the service to all senior adults, the visiting mmister, and other invited guests. Plans were made for the group to deliver the lap robes they had made for several .lursing home residents on Wednesday, March 18. Rev. McSwain announced plans for a Senior Adult Day and also for a Senior Adult Retreat both to be held m May. The group will be placing flowers in memory of Mrs. Chivous Bostic soon in the church sanctuary it was announced. Mrs. Buren Hamrick gave a report on the treasury. At the close of the business session, the hostess pre sented pictures of children and young people that every one was surpose to know and had everyone to write as many of the people as they recognized on a sheet of paper. TTiis created much attention and many comments Igroup, for it seemed the people were hard to identify. Mrs. Shull Whitaker won the prize for identi fying the most. • A very delicious covered dish luncheon was served at noon. ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jones visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jolley on Wednesday afternoon.’ The Jones’ are from Dallas. N.C. ♦ ♦ ' Mrs. Jack Dawson was among the hospital volunteers rwognized at a very enjoyable luncheon last week in the Conference Room of Crawley Hospital. 'Diere were ten who received their 100 hour pins from Mrs. Louise Moser. Mr. John Washburn served as host for the : occasion. *♦ Mrs. Daisy Daggerhart of Spindale was overnight guests , of Mrs. Cleo Wallace last week and they visited another sister, Mrs. John Marsh in Travelers Rest, S.C, the ♦ following day. Mrs. Wallace also visited with another sister. Miss Irene Pritchard, a resident at the Eifeewood Nursing Home and then on Saturday she attended the weddmg of her grandson, Mike Greene, in Ellenboro. Megan was born on Thursday to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Blanton of G^tonia. She has a brother, Chad, who is mighty proud of his baby sister. «« Mr. and Mrs. William Putnam enjoyed the weekend in Charleston, S.C. *♦ Mr. and Mrs. Homer Sarratt honored her brother and his wife, hfr. and Mrs. Harold Blanton, of Shelby at a Sunday get-together at their home for their 18th wedding anniversary. A delicious meal was served to Mr. and Mrs. Blanton, their two children, Kern and Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hamrick, parents of Mrs. Blanton, and to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Blanton, « * The pre-school choir sang for the morning worship service on Sunday. They sang several songs under the directwn of Mrs. Larry Hicks and accompanied by Mrs. John Hicks at the organ. This was the first time this group had preformed since they organized several months ago. * * The lovely spring floral arrangement was given in memory of Mrs. Bonnie Condrey by friends, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gill, for the sanctuary Sunday. Cottage prayer services will be conductdd in the David Brooks home and the Larry Houser home. These services are being conducted in the deacons homes in perparation for revival. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whitaker a.nd Mrs. Joe Davison visited the Shull Whitakers on Sunday afternoon. We extend community sympathy to Mr, and Mrs, Karl Jordan, Sr. in the loss of their brother-in-law and to Homer Sarratt m the loss of an uncle, and to Shull Whitaker m the loss of his mother. We also wish all in the hosptials and sick at home a very speedy recovery. Tom Landry, commenting on the fact that he is the only coach the Dallas Cowboys have ever had: “Well, that is one way to look at it. The other is that I have not had a promotion in 21 years. KEITH THOMAS Couple Unites In Marriage A Saturday afternoon ceremony in Davidson Mem orial Baptist Church joined Vicki Benita Clary and Keith Craig Thomas in marriage. Music was presented by Mrs. Bobby Ridge, organ'st; Billy Joe Earl, guitarist; and Ralph Glenn, soloist. Ben F. Clary gave his daughter gave his daughter in marriage and Cheryl Clary , of Gaffhey, S.C. was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Lynn Anthony of Shelby, Paula Francis of Forest City and Kim Greene of Ridgecrest. Chasidy Clary was flower girl. Lisa Bowen presided at the register. B.G. Thomas, the bride groom’s father, was best man. Ushers were Bernie Thomas and Steve Nix of Shelby and Jimmy McNeilly of Kings Mountain. Gerry Andre was ring bearer. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Clary of Rt., 8, Shelby. A. graduate of Crest High School, she attended Appal achian State University and is employed by Specialty Lighting. Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Thomas of Rt. 9, Shelby, are parents of the bridegroom, agraduate of Crest High School. He is employed by All-American Heating and Air Conditioning.
