Mrs. Allen informed the group that the yard of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Abdow received the Yard of the Month award for the month of October. Two blue ribbons for special arrangements were given to Mrs. Palmer Gold and Mrs. Bonnie Price won two blue ribbons for speciams. Mrs. Blane Whisnant won a blue ribon and a red ribon. Mrs. Bonnie Price presented a program entitled, "When to Plant What to Plant and Where to Plant." The hostess served carrot cake, peanut congealed salad, sausage balls and hot tea. *♦ Mr. and Mrs. Cart L. Hamrick spent Tuesday in Davidson visiting friends. The Baptist Young Women held an Enlistmant Dinner on Monday evening in the church fellowship hall. There were fifteen ladies present to enjoy the meat of spaghetti and lasagna amid an Italian setting. Among those present were Martha Stewart, Missionary Kid of Mairoli, Kenya, Africa and a student at Gardner-Webb plus leaders of the group. Those present remembered Marthawith a shower of gifts. Mrs. Charles Hamrick is currently serving as president of the B.Y.W. ♦ * Dolls were on display at the meeting of the Sunshine Club on Wednesday morning in the fellowship hall that had been made for little girls in Cleveland County who will not receive a doll for Christmas. Prizes were given for the first and second best. Mrs. Jack Dawson won the first prize and Mrs. Katherine Jolley won the second prize. A trip to the Southern Christmas Show was set for Monday. The group was invited to participate in the lunch at Cliffside School for retirees on Nov. 20. Rev. McSwain asked the group to prepare the evening meal on Friday tor the upcoming revival and they agreed to do so. Mrs. Ethel Ray presided over the business session and Mrs. Kenneth Dobbins delivered a poem and an de votional. Mrs. Ida Simmons had charge of the program which consisted of judging the dolls. A very bountiful meal was served at the close of the meeting with Mrs. Ray serving as hostess for the day. The Thanksgiving motif was used in decorations. * * Mrs. Cleo Wallace had her sisters as guests on Wed nesday. These were Miss Irene Pritchard of Spindale, Mrs. Daisy Daggerhard of Rutherfordton and Mrs. John Marsh of Travelers Rest, S.C. Mr. Marsh and their son, Jerry, also joined the sisters tor a lovely visit together and Mr. and Mrs. Marsh and Jerry were overnight guests of Mrs. Wallace on Wednesday. The Jim Walkers were recent guests of Mr, and Mrs. Gaylon Covington and Mrs. Theron Covington of Polkville. * * Tuesday lunch guests of Mrs. Katherine Jolley were Mrs. Gifton McCombs and Mrs. B.E. Simmons, Mrs. Bud McSwain joined the ladies for an afternoon visit. ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. Horace Scruggs of Boiling Springs and Mr. Junie Scruggs of the Camps Creek Community were visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jolley on Sunday. ♦ * In a very impressive service the note for the church indebtness was burned by the trustees during the morning worship Sunday. ♦ * The month of November has been set aside for the pounding of our Missionary family. They are the Tom Canadys of Honduras, Mr. Canady will led in a weekend revival Nov. 20, 21, and 22. He is home on furlough and will be speaking Friday through Sunday evening. There are special times planned with all ages during the special services. * * Joe Houser, Sunday School director, recognized all the teachers of the Sunday School during the worship period on Sunday. * * ' Community sympathy is extended to Mrs. Clyde Blanton and Mrs. Ethel McBee in the death of their brother, Clif ford Whisnant of Mt. Holly last week. Funeral services were held for him on Thursday. Lavonia Community by Mrs. L. B. McCraw Sunday was ministerial education day in the Sandy Run Baptist Association, Tim Atkinson brought an inspiring message at Lavonia. Carol Whitmire brought the word in song and testimony. Both are students at Gardner- Webb College. The students had dinner and spent the afternoon with Rev. and Mrs. Rae Webb and family. ** Mr. and Mrs, Joey Harrell spent Sunday afternoon with Mr, and Mrs. Dennis Evey, ♦ * The Lottie Moon and Bertha Smith Circles are giving a miscellaneous shower for Ann Marie Longshore Friday, Nov. 20 . It will be a drop-in shower from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Everyone is invited, ** Tuesday night the older youth in Training Union went skating at Kates. ♦ * Misses Wilma and Georgia McCraw visited Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hill in Cliffside Sunday.
