Scruggs had their Christmas dinner Saturday with the Scruggs’. Bartee. * * Lowell Ellis visited Thursday with Mrs. J.A. Bartee. Lavonia Community by Mrs. L. B. McCraw Lavonia Baptist Church gave a Christmas Cantata, “Going Home for Christmas’’ Sunday night. Soloists were Kim and Lora Lancaster, Melissa Jolley, Rhonda Lytle, Evelyn Ellis and Richard Lancaster. Trinity Community by Doris Scruggs Trinity Baptist Church enjoyed its Cantata, “This Holy Child’’, presented on Sunday morning during the worship hour. The Cantata was presented under the direction of Richard Jolley with the Rev. Arthur Yount being the naravator. Those having special solo parts were Ray Crowe, Amanda Jolley and Barbara Bishop. ♦ ♦ During the Sunday night worship hour a play presented by the youth was held. “To the World with live’’was the title of the play. It was under the direction of Mrs. Richard Jolley and Mrs. Grady Goode, Jr. It was a very impressive play. * * Rev. and Mrs. 1,E. Phillips of Newton and also parents of Rev, Tim Phillips were special guests on Sunday morning coming especially to hear the Cantata. Also, Mr- and Mrs, Drannan Hollifield of Morganton were present for the Sunday worship services. While here the Hollifields were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Greene. * * Mrs. Aileen Hardin and “Grammie” Eger of Shelby Were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Selma Harris. ♦ ♦ The Callahan family enjoyed a Christmas family get- together on Friday evening at the community building. ♦ ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bishop and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Gillespie spent Saturday in Charlotte with Mike Bishop. Mrs. Bishop, Mike, and Mrs. Gillespie went to one of the malls in Charlotte shopping. * * Jay McKinney of Taylors, S.C. is visiting his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKinney tor the holdiays. ** i ^ ' Mr. and Mrs. Marion Scruggs were hosts for a drop- in Christmas party on Monday night for neighbors and friends. Party pick-ups were served to all the guests who called during the evening. ♦ * Christain sympathy is extended to Mrs. Glenn Daves during the death of her grandmother who lived in Fallston. * * Mr. and Mrs. Dean Dobbins were hosts and hostess for a drop-in on Sunday night at a Christmas party honoring his brothers and sisters and their families after the worship hour at church. ♦ * Family members of Kenneth Dobbins, Eugene Dobbins and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Greene met at the community building on Saturday night for their Christmas party. * * Members of Mrs. J.W. Goodes Sunday School class enjoyed a Christmas party at the church Monday night. They met at 5:30 p.m. to go for a visit with the shut-ins in the community. ♦ * Harold Bishop, along with members of his Sunday School class, destributed fruit baskets on Sunday after noon to shut-ins in the community. ♦ * Miss Jan Collum of Hollywood, Fla. is spending the holidays here with her parents. Rev. and Mrs.-Arthur Collum, Joey and Jeff. * * Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKinney and Mrs. Jerry McKinney attended a 50th anniversary party at Buds Steak House in Forest City honoring Mr. and Mrs. Archie Humphries. The Yule Log The ceremony of the Yule log is a festive tradi tion in many homes. The burning of the mammoth log began as a Scandina vian practice during the winter solstice. As the log burns, a prayer for light, warmth, and comfort is recited by members of the family. Boiling Springs Community by Louise Moore Mr. and Mrs. G.T. MeSwain, Jr. and their daughter, Sandra Weaver, have returned home after spending several days in Flint, Mich. They were there especially to attend the marriage ceremony of their son, Neil MeSwain, to Karol Send of Flint. The newly weds are on a honey moon in Florida and will make their home in Durham, N.C. ♦ ♦ Miss Janet Hart from UNC-Chapel Hill is spending the Christmas holidays here with her mother, Mrs. Eunice Hart. * ♦ Mrs. Sallie Horn and John Washburn visited with Mrs. Addie Bridges and Miss Mae Hamrick in Kings Mountain recently. ♦ ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Marion Morehead from Earl and Bobbie Morehead from Gastonia were dinner guests of Mrs. Maude Burroughs Saturday evening at the Western Steer Steak House in Shelby. Tbe occasion was to celebrate Bobbie Morehead’s birthday. ♦ * The Boiling Springs Baptist Church had a dinner party in the fellowship hall recently lor 20 patients from Broughton Hospital in Morganton. David Lipscomb, Claud Harris and Herman Howington led the group‘With a string band and Christmas songs. The children’s choirs also sang Christmas songs. Santa Claus was present with gifts tor the special guests. * ♦ The Etta Curtis Sunday School class at Boiling Springs Baptist Church had their Christmas party in the fellowship hall of the church Friday night with a covered dish dinner.
