Ingram Friday. Mrs, Dennis’ daughter, Summer, returned to Asheville with her mother after spending several months with her grand parents. * * Miss Pinkie Greene from Forest City visited the W.T. Ingrams’ last week. *♦ Mr. Frank Morehead from Cherryville visited with Mrs. Maude Burroughs Saturday. Flint Hill Community. by Ruby Ledbetter The Morning Circle met with Jeanette Harrell Monday morning. ♦ * The B.Y.W’s are working on a community cookbook. At this time they are collecting recipes from our local people. ♦ * The youth, grades 7-up, went skating Monday night at Kate’s. and Mrs. Darrell Ledbetter and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ledbetter accompained the group. Mr. and Mrs. Lowrence Ledbetter and Mr. and Mrs. William Jolley went along also. ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. John Gibson of Virginia are the proud parents of a new baby daughter born Saturday, Feb. 20. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Scruggs are grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. Olen Ledbetter are great grandparents. The Gibon’s have another daughter, Stacie. Mrs. Scruggs left Sunday to go to be with the Gibson’s for a week. Mr. Scruggs went up over the weekend to bring her home. * * Mrs. Ruth Tony and Mrs. Doris Cash have been patients at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. Crawford Long has also been a patient there. ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wacaster, Alan and David, spent the weekend at Myrtle Beach, S.C, ♦ * Mrs. Horace Moore is home after having spent a week in Charlotte with her granddaughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter. He « Mrs. J.B. Rogers Sr. spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rogers in Fort Mill, S.C. Other visitors there from Lexington were her granddaughter and twin granddaughters of Lexington. ♦ ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Durham Ledbetter attended the 35th wedding anniversary reception of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bridges at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edle MeSwain. The other hostess were their other 2 daughters, Mrs. Ronnie Kale and Mrs. Ford Glenn. * * Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Durham Ledbetter were Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Mode and Chris who have just returned from Canada and Buffalo, N.Y. where Bobby w^s in concert with the band, ‘‘Clean Sweep.” Mrs. Mode and Chris remained for a week’s visit. TTie David Ledbetter’s of Concord also visited in the Ledbetter home on Sunday. * * Mrs. James Ledbetter, Ashley, Andrea, and Shannon, and Mrs. Kermit Harris spent the weekend in Gastonia with Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Riddle and Alan. ♦ ♦ Wednesday night was Family Night for Missions. ♦ * The Christian service organization of Gardner-Webb College met Thursday night at 7:30. * * March 8th will begin Week of Prayer for Home Miss ions. * * March 30th and 31st will be Home Mission study. * ♦ The Revival at Flint Hill will begin May 3rd. ♦ * On Sunday, April 6th, the “Images” will present a Easter musical during the morning worship service. The occasion was to celebrate Mr. Surratt’s birthday. * * Mr. Buren Crowe from Burke County visited Mr. and Mrs. Fay Crowe Thursday. Lavonia Community by Mrs. L. B. McCraw Lavonia Baptist Church will observe the week of prayer for home missions on March 7-14. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish Sunday night at 6 p.m, for a prayer dinner. Mrs. Kenny came especially due to the death of the late Bob Hord and to attend funeral services that were held on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKinney and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McKinney attended a birthday party for Jerry Harmon to help him celebrate his 3rd birthday. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McKinney and the great grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKinney. An Indian village near what is now Boston got the name Mes-atsu-s-et, meaning "large hill place," from the fact that it was located in the region of the Great Blue Hill. This later became the name of the American colony, Massachusetts. Bryson and Cindy of Spartanburg, S.C. were Saturday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Elmore. Mt. Pleasant Community by Betty Blanton The yound adults of our community organized a “Better Homes Club” on Tuesday evening with nine couples present to enjoy a covered dish supper and a period of fellowship. During the business session, a definite meeting time of every 4th Tuesday was established with meeting time to be 6:45 p.m. The group elected the following couples to serve as officers: President, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn; Vice-president, Mr. and Mrs. John Hamrick; Secretary, Mr. and Mrs. Mike States; Treas urer, Mr. and Mrs, Joe Houser; Ways and Means, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ivester; Nursery Committee, Mr.andMrs. Charles Hamrick; and Attendance Committee, Mr. and Mrs, Jim Walker. A nursery was provided by the Acteens and other ladies of the church tor the meeting time. Special speakers are planned for various meetings of the club. Bie next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 23 at 6:45 p.'m, with all couples of the church who have children urged to be present. This meeting will be a covered dish supper. During the first meeting, it was decided to have have club dues in order to have better programs and for the group to become better informed. ** Shirley Pruett, a member of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Dept., was the speaker for the Community' Watch meeting on Monday evening at the church. She gave some do’s and don’ts to try to help prevent crime. There was good attendance at this meeting. ** Mrs. Sandi Mauney and Mrs, Melissa Lucasse en tertained at a lingerie shower for Sharon Hammett at the home of Mrs. Mauney’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Dixon on Tuesday evening from 7 til 9. The refreshment table was beautifully decorated with flowers, macarme wedding cake and candles. The guests helped themselves to finger sandwiches, cake squares, mints, nuts, and punch. Miss Hammett received many nice gilts from the young ladles present, *>i A drop-in shower was given on Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall in honor of Sharon Hammett by her aunts from 3 til 4:30. The gift and refreshment tables were overlaid with yellow linens and the refreshment table held a beautiful arrangement of spring silk flowers. At one end punch was served and guests helped them selves to linger sandwiches, pound cake, mints and nuts. Sharon received many gifts from the many ladies at tending. The hostess gift to her was china in her chosen pattern and a beautiful daisey corsage. ♦ ♦ Sharon Hammett plans to marry Randy Webb on Sunday at 3 p.m. and she issues an invitation to the people in the community to attend the wedding and reception at Mt. Pleasant Church. * * A white Bible service was held on Sunday evening by the Acteens in honor of Sharon Hammett. The service was very impressive with Mrs. Ronald MeSwain, WMU Director, Mrs. Joe Houser and Mrs. Vaughn Houser, Acteen Leaders, leading the special service. Each Acteen had a flower representing marriage and told about the purpose. They presented the flowers to Sharon which made a beautiful bouquet at the close of the service, Mrs. Bobby Headley sang “Bless This House” for the benediction. *♦ Mr. Bob Hamrick was honored by his family at a birthday celebration Sunday at his home. His daughter, Pattie Ivester, had made and decorated his cake witha fisherman with his 'pale and catch. Family members enjoying the delicious meal were his daughters Pattie Ivester and Robin Owens, and their husbands ’ Roger and Mitchell, and his grandsons, Chad and Brad EVester. Mrs. Hamrick was also present tor the celebration. P.G. Jolley was honored by Mrs, Jolley, Carole his parents-in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. G.O. Humphries at the Humphries home on Friday with a birthday supper The enjoyed a delicious supper together with one of P.G. s favorite deserts, strawberry pudding. He received many nice gilts on this occasion. We congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Buren Jolley in the observMce of their 57th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, 2, and wish for them many more, Mt Pleasant voted on Sunday to hire Mrs. Bobby Headley as music director. She has been serving as Ijiterim but has accepted the full time job as of Sunday. We express sympathy to those in the community who have lost relatives during the week and wish a rapid recovery for those who are ill at this writing. ^ ° Mt. Pleasant will observe Week of Prayer for Home Mission beginning Sunday, March 7th. There win^e several special services during the week.
