Trinity Community

Memorial Day services were observed at Trinity
Baptist Church on Sunday. A large crowd at
tended along with a large number of visitors.
Lunch was served on the grounds after the noon
hour. All the flowers placed on each grave were
very pretty and the cemetary was just beautiful.
Rev. Arthur Collum conducted a revival last
week in Georgia. On Wednesday he began a
revival at Pisgah Forrest Baptist Church near
Hendersonville.
Marshall Fox returned home after having
surgery at a Charlotte Hospital on his foot last
week.
Mrs. Mary Hensley is recouperating after suf
fering from a broken ankle.
Randy Toney returned home from Crawley
Memorial Hospital after being a patient for a
couple of days last week.
Mrs. J.R. White, Jr. and Mrs. Harold Lee of
Richmond, Va. spent the weekend with Mrs.
Aileen Hardin. They came especially to attend
Memorial Day services at Trinity. While here they
visited Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Harris, Mrs. Selma
Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Scruggs.
Mrs. Annie Garrison of Gastonia spent Saturday
night with Mr. and Mrs. Jim McKinney.
Guy Gillespie spent Thursday in Charlotte. He
went for a checkup.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bridges, Jennifer and
Carla, attended a Martin family dinner and get
together at the home of Mrs. B. Hammet of Gaff
ney.
Lane and Scottie Bostic of the Chase Community
spent the weekend with their grandmother, Mrs.
Francis Dobbins. Those visiting in the Dobbins
home on Sunday were Mrs. Kay Bostic of Charlotte
and MrS: Boyd Lattimore, Julia and Johnathan, of
Valdese. They all attended Memorial Day ser
vices.
Danny Skinner of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs.
Lanny Skinner of Charlotte spent the weekend at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Skinner. They came
especially to attend the wedding of Miss Pam Long
of Shelby to Scott Skinner. The wedding was held
on Saturday night. May 1, at Westview Baptist
Church in Shelby.
Mr. and Mrs. Drannan Hollifield of Morganton
visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Greene on Sunday.
Friday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. F.A.
Lovelace were Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Wiggins of
Hendersonville.
Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Marshall Byars and Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Lovelace
were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Humphries and daughter
of Gaffney, S.C.
Flint Hill Community
Mrs. Loretta Bridges of Morganton visited Mrs.
Selma Harris on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jenkins were Saturday night
supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sammie Jenkins of
Patterson Springs.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Dobbins of Greenville, S.C.
and family visited Mrs. Charles Dobbins and Joey
on Sunday afternoon.
Mt. Pleasant Community

Mrs. Jack Dawson is home from the hospital and
her guests over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Houser of Baltimore, Maryland and Bruce
Houser who has just completed his year at
Clemson University and he will remain here for
two weeks before returning to school for the
summer session.
Happy school days were brought to mind again
when Mrs. Ida Simmons attended the reunion of
her graduating class on Saturday evening at the
Western Steer in Shelby. There was much fun,
joking and gab among the students of yesteryear.
The Clyde Blantons and the Ranny Blantons
were Saturday evening dinner guests of the L.D.
Blantons at their home in Bostic. After the very
delicious meal the three brothers tried their hand
at several games of pool while the ladies enjoyed
relaxing and lively conversation.

Rev. C.W. Walker, a former pastor of Flint Hill,
preached Sunday in the absence of Rev. Sessom.
Rev, and Mrs. Sessom attended the Sessom
reunion at Raeford. They were there Saturday and
Sunday.
W.M.Wacaster Jr. has returned home from
Crawley Memorial Hospital. Morris Langford and
Mrs. Fitzhue Lemons have returned to their homes
from Cleveland Memorial Hospital. Michael
Ledbetter is a patient at Spartanburg General
Hospital following an automobile accident
Saturday morning.
On Sunday night the “Images” sang “Are You
Washed?”
The revival began Monday night at 7:30 and will
continue through Sunday, May 9. Rev. Edly B.
Hicks is visiting pastor and the adult choir will
render special music each evening. The music
makers and young musicians sang on Wednesday
night. Among their selections were “For God So
Loved the World” and “It Wasn’t Raining When
Noah Built the Ark.”
Sunday night Jimmy Hines did a slide presen
tation of the building of the church and the tearing
down of the old church building. Rev. Sesom had
taken all these slides and Jimmy had made a story
of them and presented it to the services. A special
drive for the building will be taken on Memorial
Day which will be May 16.
Greg Anthony, who is stationed in New York
with the U.S. Navy, is spending some time here on
leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anthony
and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anthony.
Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Ledbetter and Darrin and
Mr. and Mrs. John Brown and family were in
Laurens, S.C. over the weekend.
Mrs. Lloyd Mode and Elaine Mode and Chris
ylsited here for the weekend from Augusta, S.C.
Elaine, Chris and her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Mode met Mr. and Mrs. David W. Led
better at Lake Wylie for the weekend and Mrs.
Lloyd Mode visited the Barbees and Palmers in
Shelby.

Sunday evening supper guets of the Buren
Hamricks were their granddaughter, Janet Devon
and her friend, Bryon Feree of Shelby.
The morning worship service was centered
around the home with hymns being sung that dealt
with the Christian home. Rev. McSwain led the
children’s time with emphasis on the family and
then guest speaker. Dr. Robert Newton, Director
of Christian Family Life of the N.C. Baptist
Convention, delivered the message on family life.
Then the evening service was a service em
phasizing the family. Hymns of love were used
after which five people spoke. “It’s Good to Have
a Family Because,” was presented by Larry
Hicks, “Someone Special In My Family,” by
Aletta Hamrick, “The Thing I Like Most About My
Family,” by Roger Ivester, “When I Get
Married,” by Catherine Hicks and “I Want My
Family To Be,” by Terri Hedley.
A lovely floral arrangement was given by Mr.
Ed Condrey and children in memory of Mrs.
Bonnie Condrey for the sanctuary on Sunday.
There w'ill be a bake sale for the youth who are
planning on going to camp at Caswell on Saturday,
May 8 at Hamrick’s Grocery on the Cliffside Hwy.

Sunday, May 9, will be Memorial Day at Mt.
Pleasant with Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Canady and
family leading the service. The Canadys are
missionaries that Mt, Pleasant helps to sponsor.
They serve in Honduras and while at home on
leave they are living in Rocky Mount. Lunch will
be served following the service in the fellowship
hall.
We extend deepest sympathy to Calvin Dixon in
the death of his grandmother, Mrs. Spears.

Darryl Kensinger,,a student at Gardner-Webb
College, was honored Sunday with a dinner in the
fellowship hall. He has been a faithful member of
Lavonia and taught adult couples for two years.
This summer he will work at Ridgecrest and enter
Southern Seminary in Kentucky this fall.
Winnie Schutt has worked as junior eacher in our
Sunday School and she too will graduate from
Gardner-Webb May 15. She will go to California for
15 months of mission work before entering the
seminary.
Doris Driskell, our pianist, also graduates May
15. She has planned to work here for some time.
Congratulations seniors! We appreciate the fine
work you have done at our church.
