MY ANSWER BY DR. BILLY GRAHAM Dear Dr. Graham: Don't you believe that all religions even tually lead to the same God? After all, I think we ought to learn as much as we can from all religions and then we could have a clearer idea of what God was like.~I.E. POTATO CAKE Dear J.E. I know that on the surface this sounds like an attractive idea. But I disagree with it for at least two reasons. First, by what standard would you decide what was right or true? For example, some of the major religions of the world say that there are many gods-even tens of thousands of them. Others, including Christianity, affirm that there is only one God, who is sovereign over all creation. Now how are you going to decide which is right? The pro blem, you see, is that it easily becomes a matter of personal opinion or preference, rather than any definite knowledge or certain truth about God. The main problem with your view, however, is this. You are assum ing that we must guess about what God is like, because God is hidden from us and we have no certain knowledge about him. But that is not true! We can know what God is like-and furthermore, we can know God in a personal relationship. Why is this true? It is true because God has shown us what he is like. He has revealed himself. He has done this supremely by doing something that staggers the imagination: He has taken upon himself human form and come down on this earth in the person of his Son. Therefore, if you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus Christ. “No one has ever seen God, but God the only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known” (John 1:18). Your letter in dicates to me that you have a desire to know God, and this is good. But it is important that you look in the right place. God has shown himself to us, and you find out who he is and what he has done for you by reading the Bible, God’s Word. Then you will understand what I mean when I say you can know God personally, and not just know about him. By committing your life to Jesus Christ you will come into a personal relationship with God-a relationship that begins now and extends throughout eternity. God loves you, and he wants you to discover the joy of being his child by faith in Christ. 4 eggs Vi c. butter 2 c. sugar Va c. cocoa 3 c. flour Vi c. coffee 1 c. creamed potatoes 1 c. chopped nuts 1 c. raisins 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. vanilla Mix ingredients together.
