12 ' I I THE CADUCEUS. OUR OU SWIMMIN’ HOLE The Lakewood pool, where the boys from the hospital like to “lose themselves in the depths” these hot and sultry days. The pool is here cool and refreshing, awaiting yoUr ever welcome visit. Why not try it today? BROADWAY BILL. His father called him William, His mother called him pet. The boys they called him “Broadway Bill” , A name he goes by yet. Bill was an athlete unequaled. Football was his favorite game. But when it came to fistic brawls That’s where Bill got his tame. He was horn in the great Metropolis, ’Neath the lights of old Broadway, And it was there his downfall came And came about in thisj way. Bill was about as popular As a fellow could be and so His midnight revels and gay white life Soon spoiled the lad you know. It incurred his father’s anger. Nearly broke his mother’s heart j^nd brought about the unhappy end ing That he was forced to depart. And so “Over There” we find him Away out in “No Man’s I.and With the same old fighting spirit In engagements hand to hand. And then after months of fighting FOUR MEN PROMOTED Sergeants I.eighton and Moore are to be congratulated upon their rise in rank from .sergeants to sergeants first class. Corporal McDonnell of the of fice force was also rated sergeant as was our most popular coo ,lomokonS was our moat popular cook, Solomon •T. I..;iske, of the detachment Mess. Sgt. Laske has long been in charge of our mess and we are glad to Jiee him achieve a higher rank. Of hardships and of strife A letter came to him one day That made a change in his life. It was from the girl who loved him And it filled him with a thrill For it read, “Come back I want you.' I love you “Broadway Bill.” And so he answered the letter. Saying he must remain Until the war was over And peace was restored again. And then he ciosed by saying “If it’s true you love me stili, I’ll come back to you, the ever true Your Loving Broadway Bill.” —H. P. E. Suggested by the story, “The Prom ise,” by James B. Hendryx. NEW BANNER. A beautiful Red Cross banner was j)resented during the week to the K. of C. building by the St. Peter’s Chap ter of the Red Cross, Charlotte. The banner has been draped over the altar sup|)ort,ed_ on either side by the Stars and Stripes. Tlie St. Peter’s Chap ter are regular visitors at Ward A-1 and B-1 and the fortunate patients in these words declare that the week has but. two days, Monday and Friday. God bless the ladies.
